What customers say

This well-regarded, well-kept site boasts incredibly clean, modern washrooms. Guests rave about the large pitches, helpful staff, and on-site shop/cafe. The kids' playground and dog field are hits too. Minor complaints mention spotty Wi-Fi, frequent shower restarts, and occasional shooting range noise.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Staff were friendly and helpful. The site was well kept and there was a small playground for the children, a table tennis table and plenty of space. The new toilet block was large and spacious, it was also kept clean.
Pitches were huge, which was great as you didn’t feel on top of your neighbours.

Disliked The cafe/shop was mainly a cafe and didn’t seem to stock basic items like bread etc although they did have milk. The showers, like the sinks, had push in taps that lasted less than three seconds which made having a shower tricky, also the water ran cold after a few minutes.

Liked Very well maintained site with friendly staff. Pitches are a generous size, there is a high regard for nature and conservation and light pollution is very low over the entire site. Washrooms are modern and clean. Hire of fire-pits is a great idea. Great Cafe.

Disliked The only down-side on this site is that the showers are on a time delay push button and only run for about 5 seconds for each push meaning that you had to shower one-handed to keep the water running.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Peace and quiet, large pitch, really clean facilities, shop, reception, food all handy, location to coastal areas and cycling roads, helpful and friendly staff. WiFi was good at the reception and we were able to charge our phones in reception ( we didn’t have hook up). Our children are grown up but I could see it would be a lovely site if you had younger children.

Disliked Showers could have been warmer and a more pleasant experience if didn’t have to keep holding the button in.

Powered grass campsite

Liked This park was an absolute pleasure to stay at. Very well maintained, huge well marked and level pitches with a concrete area for a firepit.

Showers, toilets, washing up area, laundry, all maintained to a clean and high standard. Shop and cafe are well stocked with a good selection of food, drink & a good menu.

Kids loved the playground facilities.

Clear night skies allowing good astronomical views of the Milky Way.

Disliked WiFi was pretty much nonexistent, but I guess on these holidays we are meant to leave all that behind.
Only really wanted it for a weather update.

Local attractions

Whatever your preference, you’ll find it on the doorstep of Haw Wood Caravan Park or within half an hour’s drive, whether it’s walking through the forest, strolling on the beach, visiting a historical building or sampling – yet again – a local Adnams ale or home-cooked pub meal. The Adnams brewery with regular tours is at Southwold fifteen minutes away: it would be rude, after all, not to sample the local produce. Outdoors, the wildlife to see in this area is first-class: wild deer in the local fields, a string of Dartmoor ponies in Dunwich Forest and the must-do birdwatching at the RSPB reserve at Minsmere ten minutes’ drive from Haw Wood, where there are also guided walks, safaris and nature trails for walking and cycling through woodland, heathland and reed beds (bike hire is available near the campsite if you’re not bringing your own). The Suffolk Wildlife Trust has dozens of wildlife areas along the coast and inland, including several near Southwold, Aldeburgh and Framlingham. It also co-manages the Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve between Walberswick and Southwold, where there are over 500 species of butterfly and moth fluttering about the marshes and meadows. After sampling the Adnams, stroll around the seaside town of Southwold to see its beach huts, award-winning pier and thriving harbour. Head towards the fish and chip shop on the High Street to see the blue plaque as a homage to George Orwell whose parents’ house was in the town. Also within fifteen minutes is Dunwich, now a tiny village but once a populous port city with a population half the size of London before most of it was lost to the sea; the free museum telling the tale of the town is open from March to October. Fourteenth century Leiston Abbey and twelfth century Framlingham Castle are 15 to 20 minutes away, and one of the best historical highlights in the country – Anglo-Saxon burial centre Sutton Hoo – is within half an hour. We’d also recommend just getting into the car, switching off the satnav and seeing where you end up: there are plenty of pretty villages within easy reach, or go further afield to the Norfolk coast and Great Yarmouth, and shopping in Norwich and Ipswich. This area is one of the clearest in the UK for stargazing too; there’s an observatory at Seething twenty minutes away.
