  • Pop-up Norfolk campground with a retro Americana vibe
  • Within walking distance of Holkham and Wells-next-the-Sea beaches
  • Entertainment including live music, campfires and craft workshops
It’s Norfolk… but with a distinct theme of retro Americana. Camp Elwood is a pop-up campground in Holkham that mixes up classic British country and coast views with cool vibes for a classy summer escape. This is the kind of place for you if you’re into craft beer, street food, cocktail masterclasses and crafty workshops in the likes of macrame and tie-dye. And it’s also the place for you if you fancy combining all of that with beach days, bike rides, lake rowing and softball games… In keeping with the style of this site, there’s barista-made coffee available, along with meals served up at Elwood’s Dining Hall – decked out like a classic diner with restaurant, well-stocked bar and takeaway dishes. Live music and classic holiday park games are thrown in for your entertainment, or you might choose an evening of stargazing and hot chocolate by the campfire. It’s all up to you how much activity you join in with – being in the middle of the Holkham National Nature Reserve there’s always the option of wandering off for a peaceful walk in the woods or a stroll through the sand dunes if you need a bit of quiet time to yourself. As you’d imagine for such a smart setup, most amenities are sorted here: guests have access to drinking water, toilets, showers and phone charging points, and there’s a provisions store for any extra bits and bobs you might need.

Local attractions

Swing through the treetops monkey-style on the high ropes course at Holkham Hall (10 minutes’ drive), where there’s also a rowing lake for those who want to stick to land height. Holkham beach (half an hour' walk) has more paddling on hand, this time in the salty surf. Each beach seems to hold its own specialities, with Wells-next-the-Sea (five minutes' drive) suited to crabbing, great fish and chips and colourful beach huts on the shore. Cromer (45 minutes) has been labelled ‘the Great Barrier Reef of Britain’, and it’s easy to see why once you snorkel its chalk bed full of fish and crabS. In nearby Blakeney (20 minutes), however, you’ll be more likely to spot a seal than a crab on one of the many seal-spotting boat trips. History doesn’t seem so far away in this area either, as Walsingham Abbey (15 minutes) is an old pilgrimage site with an ancient packhorse bridge, river and woodlands. And in Houghton Hall & Gardens (half an hour), you can explore inside a characterful walled garden with flowers and sculptures at every turn.
