  • Spectacular views among woodland and Broads walks
  • Canoes and kayaks available to hire
  • Three local pubs within a 20-minute walk
As you might guess from the name, Salhouse Broad's Camping Corner is a place where it’s simple to get out and about on and around the water; this pretty place is part of the Broads, the rural waterways of Norfolk and Suffok that’s a top spot for boating of all sorts. And it’s simple indeed to get out on the water from this scenic site, as it sits right by the water and guests can hire canoe and kayaks to paddle along at their own pace to nearby Wroxham or Horning. A splendid alternative is also on offer if that sounds a tad too energetic: the Salhouse Broads ranger can take up to five passengers at a time to the spectacularly scenic and serene Hoveton Great Broad Nature trail, only accessible by boat. Base yourself at Salhouse to explore the Broads by foot, bike or canoe, all among lush views, woodland and broadside walks with a variety of species to see for the nature spotters. Salhouse and Woodbastwick villages are within strolling distance at about 10 minutes each and there’s loads more to see and do within driving or public transport distance: Norwich, Wroxham and Horning are all close by and the local bus stop (with services to all three) is 10 minutes’ walk away. The bus service between Salhouse and Norwich or Wroxham operates every hour and the train service stops every two hours. Salhouse Broad's Camping Corner is a friendly, laidback and basic site for tents only, with pitches in a corner of a field close to a broad. The site has a standpipe for drinking water and portable toilets within the main camping area for guests to use; please note that there are no showers or hot water. The pitching area is car-free and is 100 metres from the car park. Three pubs are within 20 minutes' walk at Woodbastwick.

What customers say

Peaceful, basic site in a gorgeous spot. Close to Salhouse Broad, with watersports & friendly rangers. Enjoy the natural setting, fire pits, and nearby coffee/pub. Portaloos had mixed reviews, but improvements are happening. Limited showers, but location & charm are big pluses.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Quiet, clean, flat pitches, good proximity to Salhouse broad. The portaloos very clean for portaloos! Very impressed with those.

Disliked Price for lack of amenities. That’s on me for not reading about the lack of showering facilities but I don’t think the prices really reflect the lack of showers or washing up area.

From the manager: Hi Jessica, we are working hard to finish off our showers and have them open this summer. So we would love for you to re-visit, but we know that basic sites aren't for everyone.

Disliked Limited shade for the hot weather

From the manager: We're glad you had a lovely stay, it was so hot when you visited, we would have wanted shade too! If we keep getting such hot weather we will definitely look into a solution.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Great location next to the broad. Peaceful spot surrounded by birdsong. Nice walk round the edge of the broad to Salhouse for the pub. We hired a canoe from Ranger Trevor for a pootle around in the sun, and the chap running the snack hut gave us matches when we'd forgotten to bring any.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Location is incredible. Staff are friendly. Some flat pitches. Quiet site. Family friendly, cafe near by. Great having use of firepits. Close to watersports.

Disliked Toilets were horrendous; dirty, overflowing and pungent. Someone was pitched on our planned pitch. Prices seemed high for the apparent lack of amenities.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review, Zoe. We're sorry you had this experience with our toilets, they are portaloos and we do our best to keep on top of them, in fact we regularly get comments about how clean they are. However, in times like the August bank holiday (when I believe you stayed) the toilets get well used; so sorry if our usual standards had slipped. We're glad that despite this, you would still visit again and we look forward to that.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked We loved the secluded feel to it, lovely setting by the lake and lovely coffee van for free coffees in the morning! Lovely rangers that are always happy to help and check up on you every so often which is sweet

Disliked The lack of facilities (showers/ washing basins etc)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review. Sorry to hear you wouldn't visit again, we try to be clear in our listing of our lack of facilities, so apologies if this wasn't clear enough. We are however, working on showers for next season!

Come here for a nice few days of quiet & exploring the broads.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Quiet & simple campsite with lovely fellow campers closer to canoe hire & woodfordes brewery :) climbing frame & woods to explore for the kids. Cheap!

Disliked The stupid idiot party boats coming through the broads at kids bedtime blaring music ( thankfully only lasted 10mins)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the honest review, unfortunately we can't do anything about the party boat, as much as we'd like to.
