  • Almost wild Norfolk campsite half an hour’s drive from King’s Lynn
  • Brancaster Beach and Sandringham Estate 15 minutes’ drive
  • Peaceful woodland pitches with World War I trenches on site
Gather around all you World War I aficionados, for here’s a real treat. The peaceful campsite at Dreamy Hollow is set on a 7.5-acre wild woodland site home to rare Lovat Scouts trenches listed by Historic England as a site of national importance. For anyone not so interested in 20th-century history, luckily there’s lots of birdwatching and stargazing to be done on site as well. Half an hour’s drive from King’s Lynn in Norfolk, the site’s almost wild camping and hammock pitches sit amid woodland comprising mainly oak, silver birch and mature hawthorn. Part of the site was quarried during the 1940s, and this provides some sheltered and some elevated pitches of varying sizes from tiny to truly gigantic. While most of these secluded spots are family friendly, the ones close to the trenches and in the Turtle Dove conservation area are adults-only. Campfires are allowed in designated fire baskets at each pitch when fire-risk conditions allow. If you would like a campfire, the site asks that you please order logs and kindling in advance when booking. Extra seasoned wood is available to purchase on site.

Primitive grass tent campsite (three person)

Liked: Peaceful gladed area Well defined pitches Able to leave car in car park so just got away from it all Great warden couldn’t help enough with tour of facilities

Disliked: Maybe slightly better sign so you can slow down safer when getting close to entrance

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hello Judith, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your holiday and found our campsite peaceful. Primitive grass tent campsite (four person)

Liked: Big pitches in woodland setting

Disliked: Washing facilities could be better, and more water taps around the campsite

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hello, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed our large pitches and that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for the feedback about the taps and washing facilities. The water pipe only runs along one side of the site (from the housing estate behind) which is why it's where it is. However, we can look at getting a water tape put further near the front of the site, on the same side. We will add this to our list of things to discuss for 2025. We hope to see you again soon! Kind regards, Naomi

Primitive grass tent campsite (two person)

Liked: We stayed in the Solo pitch which was lovely and secluded, it felt like a true wild camping experience. You truly felt like the only ones on the camp site.

Disliked: What's not to like. If you like the idea of a wild camping this is as close as you can get to experiencing it.

Primitive grass tent campsite (two person)

Liked: We loved how peaceful and private our pitch was. We really liked how the cars were parked in the car park which encouraged a bit of exercise to get to our pitch! The showers were warm and there was never a queue for toilets. Harry the head warden was friendly and helpful.

Disliked: No phone signal, but that is also a good thing!

Primitive grass tent campsite (four person)

Liked: Just what i wanted from a nearly wild campsite. Fantastic named pitches of varying sizes which we loved exploring around the pathways. Good amenities, purchasing of fire wood etc for fire pits and really helpful and friendly wardens. Didn’t get around to doing the trenches tour but will definitely be back for that . Also loved the bird identifying boards. Huge thumbs up for this site!

Disliked: The lock on the gate was a bit of a faff as it did get jammed but was saved by Harry or 2 cars would have been stuck on the busy road

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hello Helen, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed our campsite and got to explore it! I'm sorry about the lock on the gate. We are getting quotes for an automatic barrier next year which will work on number plates, so you will be able to just drive in. We hope to see you next season! Kind regards, Naomi

Disliked: Peak times lack of toilet facilities

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hello, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're really glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at our campsite and that Harry was helpful. I'm sorry you found there weren't enough toilet facilities during peak times. We are in the process of building an extra toilet towards the front of the site, unfortunately that building got delayed for this season. Thank you for the feedback, we'll certainly keep that in mind when we plan the work for this winter. We hope to see you again some time! Kind regards, Naomi
