  • A cozy one acre meadow campsite just footsteps from the sandy beach
  • Kitchenette with microwave kettle fridge & toaster usb charge points
  • Hot showers and flushing toilets fire pits provided for each pitch
Get back to good old-fashioned camping basics on the pop-up site at South Beach Farm Camping, just five minutes’ walk from equally good old-fashioned family adventures at Heacham South Beach, on the North Norfolk coastline. With just a few large grass pitches on a level one-acre meadow and open fields on two sides, there’s plenty of space to run around safely, appreciate long summer days and enjoy nights sitting around a firepit burning locally sourced wood – which you can buy on site. This is the sort of casual pop-up place where everyone can happily stay in their wellies and PJs all day. Luckily, hot showers are provided to clean up messy kids at the end of a fun-filled day. Something of a nature haven (hares and peasant are often spotted), the campsite backs onto Wild Ken Hill (five minutes’ walk), where there’s regular filming for the BBC’s Springwatch and Autumnwatch – why not sign up for a guided tour to (maybe) spot beavers or rare birds? You can find pretty much anything you need at the essentials stores in Heacham (five minutes’ walk), where there’s also a chemist and post office. Even better, you have a choice of three village pubs and a microbrewery to try out… best leave the car back at your pitch and stroll down to the village.

Local attractions

So – not one but two beaches within walking distance. Heacham’s North Beach is backed by a promenade and beach huts, while South Beach (both five minutes’ walk) has a more rugged vibe for playing games and kicking a ball around. Jump in the car for long hikes along the dunes at Old Hunstanton Beach (15 minutes’ drive) or binge on Norfolk’s bracing seaside air with long-distance cycle rides. Feel a big spend coming on? Pick up interesting arty gifts from indie boutiques at genteel Burnham Market (half an hour) or go for the foodie treats sold in the upmarket delis of Thornham (20 minutes). You can also source scented oils, herbs and garden plants at Norfolk Lavender (five minutes), which handily also caters for kids with a play barn and petting zoo. Seals, penguins and aquariums full of colourful fish await at SEA LIFE, or you can let the offspring loose at Hunstanton’s (both 10 minutes) seafront amusement parks and fairgrounds. They can also have a run-around on woodland trails at Sandringham Estate (15 minutes), and if that doesn’t do the trick, march them straight to the play park. Tours of the big house itself are available from March to October.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: We liked our welcome from the host, Nick.
We were amazed how clean and tidy the facilities were.
The kitchen area was very useful and to have access to a toaster was a real treat.
The shower block was also immaculate, clean and polished.
The owners are obviously very proud of their camping site and look after the place so very well.
The location is great for the beach (and sun set).
There's a great restaurant within walking distance, The West Norfolk.

Disliked: The first impression was odd - There were hoards of toddler bikes, tricycles, scooters, tractors, etc., these were positioned at the entrance to the campsite. We may have understood the reason more if it had been the school holidays. Maybe they would be better in a less visible location.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Very friendly welcome, offered help and advice beyond what I'd normally expect even without being asked. Large and clearly defined pitch with its own tap. Clean facilities, kettle, toaster, microwave, USB points for phone charging. Nearby walks and wildlife. Amazing sunset seen from the west facing beach.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Liked the locality of the site, the wandering wildlife. For most of my stay I was the only one on site.
It is a few minutes from the beach, and with walking trails starting from outside the gate.
It was great to have the use of a kettle and fridge in the kitchenette and sole use of toilet/ facilities.

Disliked: The ground is a meadow, and although overall level, there are wheel marks and dips which might make a difference when pitching a tent, as I found out too late when pegging out. Just wished I had seen it earlier as I would have turned the tent 90 degrees.
Didn’t like the heavy storms, but that’s not a campsite problem
Shower area is small, nowhere to go to dry off and get dressed

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: A great campsite, run by friendly owners.
We hadn’t camped for over 6 yrs and were so glad we selected this site for our first outing.
The pitches were well spaced and only numbered 8-10.
The site was secure.
There was drinking water on tap in the field.
The toilet block was clean and well provisioned with 2 toilets and 2 electric showers- everything worked and was in good order.
There was a handy kitchen, for the lazier of campers, with kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing up area.
Braziers at every pitch for roasting marshmallows and cosying up by.
The beach is only 5mins walk away.
Local shop.

All in all I would highly recommend this site for those of you looking for a quiet site with all the little comforts to make it an enjoyable stay. Thank you Nick.

Disliked: Nothing.
