What customers say
This woodland campsite provides a genuine wild camping experience, complete with clean washrooms and hot showers. Guests loved the freedom to pick their own spots, the beautiful natural setting, and the plentiful wildlife. The hosts were frequently noted as friendly, welcoming, and helpful, with many planning a return visit. Small issues mentioned were shower door privacy and the potential for one washroom to cause delays.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Lovely wild camping site.
Owners very accommodating, friendly and laid back.
Clean and warm toilets and shower facility.
Plenty of fallen wood for campfires.
Disliked Its hard to avoid the drone of the motorway nearby but the many trees did a good job of absorbing the sound.

It’s great to know you felt well looked after and could make the most of the natural surroundings, including the campfires.
We do understand your point about the motorway noise, and while the trees help to soften it, we’re always looking at ways to make the site feel as peaceful as possible. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back again for another stay.

A properly back to basics, adventurers campsite with friendly owners
Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Rockridge is a proper back-to-basics site, in which the location owner will greet you with a warm welcome and shortly after inform you that you are free to set up camp on any part of the site that takes your fancy.
Once we informed Gary of the spot we had chosen he inspected the area and then told us he'd cut down some firewood for us, felling an ash tree nearby which provided us with ample firewood for our 2 night stay.
The facilities at the location are just what you need and more. I've never visited a campsite that had such a clean separate toilet and shower rooms properly insulated and protected from the outside, the materials for the toilet were also well stocked.
The campsite itself has a truly rustic feel that really gives one the sense you look for when wild camping, but with the added bonus of having a working toilet nearby. We pitched up in a grove of trees on the hillside and we never felt like we were in the nearby vicinity of any other campers.
Also, due to the slope of the hill on one side, the campsite is sheltered from the wind and the noise of the M5. During quiet moments it's possible to hear a quiet distant hum of the motorway but the rustling of the trees provides a much more appealing distraction
Disliked It's hard to find a criticism of the site. The only thing I could list would be a minor gripe that wasn't the fault of the site, but a fact of being in nature:
During our stay we ended up cooking quite late into the night and we were harassed by some hornets attracted by our bright headlamps. Fortunately no-one was stung. I mentioned this to the campsite owner Gary who said he would look into the situation and see what he could do. We did some research of our own and it seems that they were european hornets which are fairly typical of the area.

From the manager: Thanks a lot for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. I’m really glad you enjoyed the back-to-basics feel here at Rockridge, and it’s great to hear the facilities and your spot in the grove worked out well for you. Cutting that ash tree for your firewood was no trouble at all I’m pleased it kept you going for the stay!
I appreciate you mentioning the hornets too. They’re part of being out in nature, but I’ll keep an eye on things and see what I can do to make sure they don’t cause too much bother for future campers.
Also, thanks for the heads up about the entrance sign. I can see how that might’ve been confusing on arrival, so I’ll get onto making that clearer.
Hope to see you back here again sometime for another peaceful stay in the woods

Primitive grass and earth travel trailer campsite
Liked The welcome from Gary and his partner (sorry I didn’t cath your name) was fabulous.
The setting is beautiful, it’s a few acres of gentle hill with natural clearings big enough to pitch a tent throughout the site and the lower levels are perfect for vans.
The amenities are basic, but perfectly formed, you can grab a shower, go to the loo, and get fresh water which is just what we wanted for our wild camping experience.
Venturing out and about, the land is surrounded by interesting walks, we chose to walk up to the church aprox 1mile walk, it was perfectly tranquil, and just what you want from an off grid experience.
Disliked None - I’ve marked down wifi on my score, this is not a negative, there is no access to wifi, and nor should there be! Enjoy nature my friends :-)

From the manager: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the welcome from Gary (and Marlene 😊). It’s great to know that the peaceful setting, natural pitches, and simple amenities provided just the right balance for your off-grid experience.
We’re especially pleased that you made the most of the local walks—visiting the church is a lovely way to take in the tranquility of the area. And thank you for highlighting the absence of Wi-Fi in such a positive way; we couldn’t agree more that it’s the perfect chance to switch off and enjoy nature.
We hope to welcome you back again

Ok for what it is
Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Toilets and bench area was nice.
Free wood
Disliked Can't park next to pitch as advertised.
Nobody at reception which is fine but when they came back asked us to move even though it was pitch anywhere.
Cat is nice but trys to steal food and when you say no it launched at my arm and bit me.
Looks like a building site near the house and could do with hiding away as its not great to look at.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not fully meet expectations. For safety and comfort reasons, not all Car can parked directly on the pitches, which is why guests are asked to use the designated parking areas. We appreciate your understanding on this.
Regarding the reception, we do sometimes step away briefly, but our team is always available to help as soon as possible. We’re also very sorry about your experience with the cat – it is usually friendly with guests, and we will take steps to ensure it does not disturb anyone.
Finally, we are currently carrying out some improvement works to enhance the site, and we understand this may not be the best view. These upgrades will help us provide an even better stay for future visitors.
We truly value your comments and will use them to improve our guest experience.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked This site is a must for those that love nature as you will be smack in the middle of it. This camp site is beautiful. A place to recharge the mind and the body. A place
to sleep under the stars and connect to mother nature.. something that needs to be protected.
The shower was warm and large.. so was the toilet which was well stocked with loo roll and both are very clean.it was great to be allowed to have an open fire which was quite popular...all that was asked was common sense prevailed. There is a well stocked washing up area .
We were a party of four and none of us will hesitate to return..infact we do plan another weekend very soon .
This site is an absolute gem
