  • Well-equipped kitchen; ensuite shower room; views of the Malvern Hills
Ready to face the (sweet) music? Named after composer Edward Elgar, who was born in the nearby village of Lower Broadheath (about five minutes’ drive away), Elgar’s Shepherd’s Huts doubles down on the local connection with the renowned artist by calling its luxury huts Nimrod and Enigma (two of his orchestral works). In addition to having spectacular views of the Malvern Hills and countryside (maybe the very same views that inspired Elgar’s music?), the site is only a few miles from Worcester and a 20-minute walk or a short drive from the nearest pub and amenities. Motorsports fans can drive 15 minutes to the Shelsley Walsh Speed Hill Climb, while everyone else trundles off to the outstanding Malvern Hills for walks from The Malvern Hills Hotel (25 minutes' drive away) or theatre shows in Great Malvern (20 minutes). The tastefully furnished huts at this site are designed for two adults (and one infant if needed, and/or one well-behaved dog) and come with comfortable double beds (cosy duvet and all bedding, plus towels, are included). Each hut also has an ensuite shower room and toilet, plus a well-equipped kitchen with a butler sink, two cooking hobs, fridge, toaster and kettle, as well as a generous supply of tea, coffee, sugar and milk. You can relax with a hot brew (or a glass of wine, if you prefer…) at the dining table, or sip it outside, on the raised decked area, as you fill your lungs with fresh country air. After dark, solar-powered lights illuminate the decking, making it a pretty spot for a meal à deux…

Shepherd's hut

Liked Absolutely loved EVERYTHING about this shepherds hut! Location was perfect, the view was just amazing, it was very peaceful and quiet. Cleanliness was 5* and it was nice and cosy. I felt at home there and the hosts were so friendly, welcoming and very helpful. I shall definitely be going back a few times a year!

Local attractions

When staying at this site, it’s almost your duty to learn more about Elgar. That’s easily done at National Trust - The Firs: Elgar’s Birthplace (five minutes’ drive), a pretty country cottage that now displays assorted artefacts that belonged to the composer. The visitor centre has a piano that you can play, should inspiration strike, or you can embark on a musical journey at Elgar Soundscapes, in the garden. Continue your Elgar education in Worcester, where a statue of the composer sits at the southern end of the High Street, facing the 11th-century cathedral, with its spectacular stained-glass windows (many of them dating from Victorian times). The city is also known for its delicate porcelain, which you can admire at the Museum of Royal Worcester. Epic hikes (including some long-distance trails) await at Malvern Hills National Landscape (25 minutes) – from the top of the Worcester Beacon, you can see as far as Wales on a clear day. As you stroll through the area’s woodland, you might spot woodpeckers and butterflies. Finally, Stratford-upon-Avon (50 minutes) is not too far away for Shakespeare-inspired activities.
