  • Quiet and peaceful bell tents in a two-acre Warwickshire meadow
  • A 10-minute drive from Warwick; 35 minutes to Stratford-upon-Avon
  • Three pubs, Hatton Locks and shops within walking distance of the site
What’s the way of life like at The Meadow? Well, it should be both cosy and convenient in the bell tents at this Warwickshire glamping site. It's a 10-minute drive from Warwick and 35 minutes from Stratford-upon-Avon, but the rural vibe means it might seem hard to believe that this wildlife haven is so close to castles, Shakespeare’s birthplace and all the action of the river Avon. Your sleeping den’s already set up in form of a bell tent with air beds (although note you'll need to bring bedding), with a toilet block to hand and plenty of space and privacy around. The two-acre meadow is all about peaceful times, but when you’re ready to pick up the pace of your adventure, historic Warwick is just a short drive away. Whether it’s the medieval castle (founded by William the Conqueror), the collegiate church of St Mary’s (with city views and a Norman crypt), the river Avon (watersports, yes please), it’s easy to while away a day here. There are bundles of independent shops too, or the surrounding countryside’s another option, with all of its many trails. Shrewley, Hatton and Haseley are all under half an hour’s walk away from the meadow, so whenever you fancy a drink out, you’ll have a pick of three pubs (one with food on a terrace over the canal locks), and shops nearby to stock up on snacks and whatever bits you fancy.

Local attractions

The 'stairway to heaven' is the name earned by Hatton Locks’ flight of 21 locks (five minutes’ drive). And it is pretty heavenly, to be fair, especially if you’re partial to a peaceful towpath walk, or boating, canoeing or fishing on the water. Of course, Stratford-upon-Avon (35 minutes) is a boating haven too. There are rowing boats, punts and canoes for hire here, quite the way to look over the town where Shakespeare once lived. His childhood home is one of a long reel of Shakespeare-related sites around the town, which also includes Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and his grave. In Warwick, there’s more than just historical sights too. The Warwick town walk will take you on a wander past parks and gardens (these are picnic havens in themselves, so you may want to get together a good spread), as well as some proper nice places to eat and drink and the way to more walking and cycling trails. Cycling and walking are the real deal in the Cotswolds (45 minutes) too. Whether it’s handsome villages or countryside slopes, you'll have a neat choice of trails, including the Cotswolds Way.
