  • Peaceful pop-up site at a farm in the Staffordshire Moorlands
  • Alton Towers 10 minutes' drive; Peak District walks 20 minutes away
  • Meet animals and buy produce on site; pub two minutes' walk
Piggies to meet on site, a pub a couple of minutes’ walk away, and Peak District walks close by… that’s just the start of a list of selling points for Tunstead Campsite, just outside the village of Foxt in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Pitches at this pop-up farm site are simple (please note that there are no showers, only toilets for guests' use) but scenic, with a peaceful atmosphere and lovely views across the surrounding green landscapes. You’ll be able to meet and feed the three friendly pigs, and can also buy logs, free-range eggs, homemade bread and butchers’ packs to boost your rural experience. Don’t fancy cooking? Stroll to the local pub (a mere two minutes’ walk from the farm) for burgers and other pub classics along with a good range of drinks. The immediate surroundings are great for a country walk (handy for dog owners…), but it's also worth knowing that the edge of the Peak District National Park is only a few miles away, putting places like Ashbourne and Dovedale within easy reach for walks and bike rides. And that's not all – family attractions like Alton Towers and the Peak Wildlife Park are within 10 minutes’ drive too. An aesthetics and skincare clinic is based at Tunstead Campsite, so if you fancy getting a Japanese head spa treatment, you know where to go; site guests get a 15% discount.

What customers say

Family-run site with a relaxed vibe, spacious pitches, and great views. Owners are friendly and accommodating; kids loved the animals. Close to Alton Towers and pubs. Toilets are clean but basic; showers would be nice for longer stays. Some found signage tricky.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely host, greeted us as we arrived. Most of the pitch is flat, nice location, great vibes. Toilet facilities were clean. All the campers were polite and nice. Had a great time, thanks for having us!

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked Beautiful views, friendly owners, real community feel amongst other campers, and lots of optional extras to purchase if required (wood, marshmallows, eggs etc). Great pub around the corner and 15 minutes from Alton Towers.

Disliked Only 2 toilets on site which lacked privacy, and it was really busy so obviously lots of people in and out. No hot water for the one communal sink (outdoors with no shelter - not ideal). And a bit delicate this one: the site owners’ children were playing on the campsite unattended, and the youngest was being a bit unkind (thumped another child which went unnoticed by any other adults, and wouldn’t move down the slide so other children couldn’t use it, including my daughter). He also pulled out the dipstick from the tractor and was splashing oil about!! So I don’t really agree with letting them use the area unless they’re being monitored or you can ensure they’re playing nicely (sorry - not a parental criticism, just from a business perspective).

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely place, in the heart of Peak District
Really clean and well looked after site, clean toilets and a washing place.
Offers for small fee: bags of burning wood, barbecue, wood burner, even marshmallow and sticks.
2min walking distance a very lovely local pub with good food for everyone. What else could you ask for?! Everything was just perfect.

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked Second time staying here and was happy that the first time wasn't just a one off.
Whilst it was considerably busier this time - was still ideal for what I needed.

Disliked With the number of people staying this weekend - more toilets would be beneficial- especially when there are so many children on site

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked This is a very well-maintained site. The pitch sizes are spacious, well-kept and overlook a beautiful view. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Although there is no shower, the toilet block is very clean and easily accessible to everyone.

There are some toys available for children to play with and plenty of space to run around. There are also some animals for the children to see.

Perfect for a short stay and excellent value for money.

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked Lovely little site. The host was extremely welcoming. Not too many pitched but the area was big enough that people weren't crammed in. Would definitely return.
Logs available to purchase for firepit - (I didn't use ours on this occasion)

Disliked Was only here the 1 night - so nothing to dislike
