  • Green and serene site in the spectacular Staffordshire Moorlands
  • Alton Towers within a 20-minute drive and 30 to the Peak District
  • 3.5 acres of open fields, five minutes from restaurants and pubs
For rollercoasters and roams alike, head off on a hol to Springfields Countryside Caravan and Camping, a 3.5-acre site with a large open field for playing in off a peaceful lane with hilly views. It’s less than a 20-minute drive to the rides at Alton Towers, 15 minutes to the city of Stoke-on-Trent and 200 metres from the main road… but the spectacular Staffordshire Moorlands surrounds mean you wouldn’t have a clue that it's all so close by. Tear yourself away from the vistas and ponder eats: they’re varied in the local area, with pubs and restaurants as well as Indian and Chinese takeaways five minutes away by car. In charge of cooking? The supermarkets of Cheadle are your spots to stock up less than a 10-minute drive up the road. Once you’ve got your meals sorted, you could be skirting the edges of the glorious Peak District National Park in half an hour, ready to roam around traditional market towns like Buxton Spa. Other typically English things to do in this area include perusing the pottery at the popular Wedgewood Museum at World of Wedgewood (15 minutes’ drive) and Gladstone Pottery Museum (10 minutes) or riding the working steam Foxfield Light Railway and the Churnet Valley Railway (10 and 15 minutes away). Alternatively, you can make like you’re in Milan by having a gander at the Italian-style Trentham Gardens about 20 minutes down the road. As is fitting for such a countryside setting, barbecues and campfires are permitted on site, and there are handy essentials such as a washing-up area, toilets and showers.

FHU grass campsite

Liked Haven’t got a single bad thing to say about this site. Owners were lovely. Very welcoming. Site is beautiful. I didn’t appreciate from the pictures the lovely patches of wildflowers separating each pitch. Felt lovely and private. Facilities were immaculate. Beautiful washing up area. Showers were luxury. Everything was clean. Frequently saw the site owners clearing up the odd bit of rubbish dropped by naughty campers. Our family came to visit for the day and the 2yo nephew really enjoyed the thoughtfully laid out play park. Will be planning to return here in September.
There is also a really beautiful hammock area, pizza ovens and communal bbq’s

From the manager: Thank you so much for such a wonderful review, it truly means a lot to us. We’re delighted that you found the site beautiful and welcoming, and it’s lovely to hear the wildflower borders made such an impression. They’re one of our favourite features too, and we love how they give each pitch that extra bit of privacy.

We’re really pleased the facilities hit the mark for you, from the washing-up area to the showers. We put a lot of care into keeping everything spotless, so your kind words and noticing us doing the odd tidy‑up really do make the effort feel worthwhile.

It’s great to hear your family enjoyed their visit as well, especially your little nephew in the play park. And we’re thrilled you liked the hammock area, pizza ovens and communal BBQs, they’re all designed to help guests relax and make the most of their stay.

A special thank you for sharing so many lovely photos. It’s always a joy to see the site through our guests eyes, and your pictures captured the atmosphere beautifully.

We’d be absolutely delighted to welcome you back in September.

Great site for families or couples. Would definitely recommend.

FHU grass campsite

Liked Clean and well looked after. Small quiet family site with great views. Friendly owners who offered lots of information prior to arrival and when we got there. Campers kitchen. Bbqs and pizza oven for campers use. Water point at each pitch. Soft sensor lights on main path to toilets meaning you don’t need to find a torch to take with you at night. Kids liked the hammocks. Would highly recommend.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review and for choosing Springfields Campsite to celebrate a birthday. We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed the clean, peaceful setting and those big open views, they’re some of our favourite things about the site too.

It’s great to know the information we shared before and during your stay helped you settle in, and we’re really pleased you made good use of the campers’ kitchen, BBQs and pizza oven. The soft sensor lights are a small touch, but we love that they made those night-time trips easier.

Hearing that the kids enjoyed the hammocks genuinely made our day. Creating simple little spaces for families to relax is exactly what we aim for.

Thank you as well for the private feedback, it means a lot to know your stay helped make the birthday celebration special. You’d be very welcome back any time

FHU grass campsite

Liked Great size pitch for our big family tent.
Small and family-friendly.
Never had to queue for a shower.
Camper's kitchen with fridge and freezer.
General look and feel of the place.
Helpful managers.
Good vibes on the site.
Felt safe and small enough to allow our kids to explore by themselves.
Able to have a campfire.

Disliked Could do with some more natural shade - a few trees, etc.
Sloping pitch.
Freezer in the campers' kitchen wasn't reliable - perhaps due to overuse or people not closing it properly. Some of our food partially defrosted (but having the free-to-use fridge and freezer was a BIG bonus anyway!).

From the manager: Review Reply from Springfields Campsite

Thank you so much for your lovely review — we’re delighted to hear you had such a great stay with us in May. It’s wonderful to know the fully‑serviced pitch worked well for your big family tent and that the site felt safe, relaxed, and welcoming for your whole family.

We’re really pleased you enjoyed the family‑friendly atmosphere, the clean and queue‑free showers, and the convenience of the camper’s kitchen. Hearing that the general vibe of the site and the support from our team added to your stay truly means a lot to us. And we love that you made the most of having a campfire — those evenings are often the highlight of a camping trip.

We also really appreciate your thoughtful feedback. While we don’t plant trees on the main camping field because they would block the beautiful open views that so many guests enjoy, we do have a lovely shaded woodland area with hammocks where families can relax and cool off. It’s a peaceful spot that offers natural shade without taking away from the scenery on the pitches.

Thank you as well for mentioning the slope and the freezer. We’ll continue to monitor the freezer closely, especially during busy periods, to keep it working reliably for everyone.

We’re thrilled you’d recommend us and plan to visit again — that’s the best compliment we could hope for. We can’t wait to welcome you back for another stay full of good vibes and happy memories.

Warmest thanks from all of us at Springfields

Canvas Cottage 2 bedroom ready tent (deluxe)

Liked What a campsite! We had the most amazing stay, the canvas cottages were perfect for us, (was a welcome break from pitching our own tent), it was clean and spacious! The facilities on site were great! The bathrooms were always clean and the washing up area was lovely and well-equipped with kettle, microwave and fridge and freezer. The owners are the sweetest couple ever! Came to check on us the first night to make sure we were happy. They were always available when needed and always happy to help. The hammocks and tree swing were lovely, the kids loved playing down there enjoying the shade of the trees, they also enjoyed the ice poles too 😅 thanks for having us! We will definitely be returning ❤️

Disliked Absolutely nothing - if I was to suggest anything maybe something for the older kids... little games area maybe, but purely a suggestion, we all had an absolute blast

From the manager: Thank you so much for this wonderful review — and an absolutely massive thank you for sharing all those brilliant photos. They truly captured the spirit of your stay and brought huge smiles to our faces.

We’re over the moon to hear how much you enjoyed the canvas cottages and found them clean, spacious, and a welcome break from pitching your own tent. It means a lot to us that the facilities — especially the bathrooms and washing-up area — helped make your stay comfortable and easy.

Hearing your kind words about us personally is incredibly touching. We genuinely love checking in with guests and making sure everyone feels at home, so knowing that made a difference to your stay is just wonderful.

The kids making the most of the hammocks and tree swing (and the ice pops!) absolutely made our day. That shady spot under the trees is one of our favourite corners of the site, and it’s lovely to know it became one of yours too.

Your suggestion about adding something for older kids is really appreciated. We’re always looking for ways to improve, and the kind of feedback that helps us grow. Thank you for sharing it so thoughtfully.

We’re thrilled you all had such an amazing time, and we can’t wait to welcome you back for another stay full of fun, relaxation, and happy memories.

Liked We absolutely loved our stay here, it was perfection from start to finish. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful, and you could tell so much care had gone into every detail. Everything was spotlessly clean with lots of thoughtful touches throughout.

The children especially loved the hammocks and the delicious pizza! The views were stunning, and in the evening all the lights made the whole campsite feel so magical and cosy.

Thank you for such a wonderful stay, we can’t wait to come back!

Canvas Cottage 2 bedroom ready tent (deluxe)

Liked Had a fantastic weekend camping at Springfields. We stayed in the deluxe Canvas Cottage, which was really well set up — two double-size rooms, a small fridge, comfortable sofa chairs, and even decorative lighting that made it feel cosy and special.

The bathroom and all shared facilities were clean and well maintained. We were also pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful details throughout — a personalised welcome sign in the tent, handy hooks and stools in the toilets and kitchen, a library with a few boardgames, and a lovely little playground for children.

David and Sharon were incredibly attentive, warm, and welcoming. Their friendliness and smiles really made the stay even more special !
