  • Peaceful Shropshire site on the banks of the River Roden near Shawbury
  • Moreton Corbet Castle five minutes' drive; 20 minutes to Shrewsbury
  • Fishing available on site, plus firepits to hire; easy access from A53
Right on the banks of the River Roden and surrounded by Shropshire countryside, Springfield Riverside Camping and Glamping makes a fabulous base for a peaceful break – or one that’s packed with activities and outings. This small and quiet site sits close to Moreton Mill and about a mile from Shawbury – a handy village that’s got a farm shop, a couple of pubs and a fish and chip takeaway, as well as bus stops for car-free travels. It’s also just off the A53, so access is nice and easy for those travelling in cars or other vehicles. Horses, pigs and goats will be among your neighbours at this friendly rural spot, and you’re welcome to bring a dog along to join the menagerie. There’s fishing on site too, with pegs available to hire for a small daily charge. The vibe here is one of relaxing among natural surroundings, so guests are encouraged to bring barbecues or hire firepits on sites for cosy campfire evenings (you can buy firewood on site, so no need to lug your own). Picnic tables are provided for comfy mealtimes, and you’ll also have access to showers, toilets and wifi. When it’s time to explore the local area, there are plenty of options for walks and bike rides nearby, plus a couple more fisheries for the keen anglers. Moreton Corbet Castle is a few minutes’ drive away, and the wider area is home to all sorts of attractions from National Trust properties to the museums of Ironbridge to the animal attractions of Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World.

What customers say

This friendly, well-kept farm site has roomy, private spots. Kids love the animals, especially bottle-feeding lambs. Owners are praised for being attentive and generous. New toilets/showers installed by July 2026 resolved early feedback. Peaceful, secure, with a good wash-up area.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Host was fantastic, quiet, clean, safe and perfect for relaxing, alpacas and goats for the kids. All visitors during my stay were freindly and evenings in front of a fire pit with a beer from the cooler ticked all the boxes. Of all the camping ive done, this is an immediate top 5.

Disliked In a time where people online want to moan, there simply is nothing here to moan about.

Liked Absolutely loved this site. Organised pitches with plenty of space. Flat camping ground. Not too large or commercial. Very clean and well tended toilet. Washing up facilities. Superb chemical emptying facility.
Very attentive owner and staff. All our needs were met. Above and beyond service.

Disliked Initially only one toilet. This was being addressed while we were on site.

From the manager: We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. Kind words are always appreciated. I shall definitely look into the hot tap for the washing up station. We hope to see you again. Take from all of the Springfield Team

Liked Really lovely site it was the perfect little break away for us to test out our new tent - and the children loved feeding the animals, thankyou for your generosity. Great to see new developments including the new pot washing area. As others have mentioned the is only 1 toilet and 1 shower but both immaculately clean and as the owners have said they are adding more which will make the site even better - it didn't really affect us and any waiting was very minimal as this is a small site and wasnt fully booked when we stayed.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are really pleased you chose us to try out your new tent. I hope you have many, many adventures. Glad the new washing up station was a hit. stage 2 of the development is the new toilet/shower block. Please come back and see us some time. The alpacas are now in the field ready for lots of fuss. Take care from us all at Springfield

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Clean toilet and shower.
Tidy site.
Loved the animals and bonus that the owners came round with food to feed them.
Super friendly owners that genuinely couldn't do enough.

Disliked Not a dislike at all, just a point to note. There is only one toilet and shower so if it was busy there could be a queue.
Also an extra hook in the shower would be useful, one for clothes and one for towels as it's quite tight in there.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for a kind review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and will come back to see us again. Just to reassure you we have purchased another toilet and shower block which is due to be installed, we have decided to buy a block that has the toilet and shower together rather than separately to support families. We have taken on board your suggestion about the hook and have now today put an extra one in the shower room. We look forward to seeing you all again Take care from the Springfield Team

Liked Peaceful campsite with large pitches. Love the little touches such as the chance to see the sheep, goats and horses. The owner and staff called daily to check everything was ok, along with the offering of eggs produced from the farm hens. The toilet and shower facilities were exceptionally clean, also plenty of points to get fresh water when needed.

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The site was very well kept, nice level pitches, toilet and shower kept immaculate, cleaned several times a day. Easy access to to campsite, felt very secure. There is lots to see and do near by, also great if you just want to relax on site.
All the staff are very friendly and helpful. We were given bags of animal feed to feed the farm animals. The children even got a surprise visit from Scooby doo which the loved.
Lots of room for the kids to play.
Really lovely site
