Pitch up and relax in the great outdoors at High Lodge Farm in Oxfordshire. This peaceful 400-acre farm borders the River Thames and looks out over historic Abingdon (widely thought to be England's oldest town), with views that are particularly spectacular at sunset. Made up of rolling fields, meadows and mature woodland, this back to basics site feels a world away from urban life and is a great place to enjoy a mini break under the stars. This pop-up site has spacious pitches where you can keep warm by hiring a firepit on site. Other facilities include a mobile toilet trailer, basic hot and cold water outdoor showers (hot showers require a small charge), a cold-water washing-up station, an outdoor games area, book exchange and a small bale stack to play on. Barbecues are permitted if raised off the ground (no disposable barbecues, please). Firepit hire is subject to availability, and logs will be available to purchase. If you're here in summer, you'll also have access to the site's nearby PYO sunflower field, along with special Sunflower Sundowner events on select weekends, where you can sip a glass of fizz or artisan Oxfordshire gin alongside freshly grilled burgers as the sun sets. Catering trailers also sell locally roasted coffee, cake and ice creams as well as breakfast rolls, burgers and hot dogs during PYO Sunflower opening hours. Dogs are welcome and select parts of the farm will be open for exclusive walkies with your four-legged friend.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: The amount of safe space for youngsters to play in, sheltered by woods but then open fields so close, good but basic amenities , a great place to go and so close to Abingdon

Disliked: The fact that although there is a time limit on noise that some adults felt the need to have loud music on to the point I could barely hear my radio. I think someone needs to do a circuit to ensure this doesn't happen as there are quite a lot of young families who go here.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The campsite, despite being so close to Abingdon, felt like you were in the middle of no where and away from the world. We chose High Lodge as we wanted to test our dog with her first camping trip. The 3km dog walk was a life saver and a great way to get away from activity of the campsite. The pitches were a generous size and the fact you could rent a fire pit was a lovely addition. The campsite was clean and had the basic facilities we required. Everyone respected the rules around quiet hours and driving around the campsite.

Disliked: Only a minor thing, the 3km dog walking route was a life saver but it would be nice if an enclosed area was made to throw a ball about for the dog (very small minor thing).

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Brilliant site on a hill, secluded by the woods and beside the sun flower fields. The site is clear, spacious and friendly. The hay bales, giant Jenga, ping pong table and giant nought and crosses were a nice touch. We will definitely be back!

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: We loved our stay here over Aug bank holiday weekend. Really appreciated being able to park up adjacent to a "wild" field with views down to Abingdon where it was peacefully away from the toys & games for the kids (these looked great though!) Loved being able to explore the woods too, and visit the sunflowers. The rustic showers were fun, and the toilet block had plenty of cubicles too. Large pitches - overall, very good value! Abingdon is only a 25 min practically flat walk away along a pavement. There is an open air pool there, an independent cinema, lovely cafés etc, and of course the Thames footpath. Would definitely stay again if we come back to the area.

Disliked: Nothing!

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Flexible layout and space in central area for children with the hay bales to play on - they were really amused and it was easy for parents to watch and relax. Woodland walks lovely. Direct, flat walk into Abingdon via surrounding canal paths - good for the pubs. Sunflower field was in bloom Aug bank holiday which was a delightful sight.

Disliked: Showers were £1 for 3 mins and we didn’t have any coins with us on the first day - nice to have that highlighted to be more prepared (but maybe I just missed that info)!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Lovely, chilled out site. Good location. Excellent size pitches.

Disliked: Outdoor showers, and portacabin toilets - all ok. Would be good to have some outdoor sinks for teeth brushing etc as not enough space in portacabins
