  • Luxurious rural campsite close to the Peak District National Park
  • A 10-minute drive to Hardwick Hall; Chatsworth House 35 minutes
  • Miles of walking and cycling trails from site; pubs five minutes’ walk
Can’t decide between Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire? Your worries are over with a stay at Silverhill Woodland Retreats – this well-established and superbly maintained campsite near Teversal borders both counties – and in fact you can spy three more from the top of Silverhill nearby. Surrounded by countryside, it has a peaceful location and yet is still easily accessible from main road routes. Customer service and superior facilities are the name of the game here – for it has a very glitzy loo block crafted from black marble, with thoughtful luxuries in it like hair dryers and complimentary toiletries. No need to worry about leaving anything at home either, as there is a shop on the site selling camping essentials, coffee and stuff you basically forgot to pack. There are ice creams on hand too, if the kids are behaving. You’ll find a play area on site for your younger offspring, as well as miles of walking and cycling trails directly from the campsite (pick up maps in reception). You can bring any four-legged friends to share in your hikes, or restrict your exercise to a leisurely stroll down to the local pub (five minutes’ walk) for decent grub and a pint.

Liked We went last year and loved it so had to go back again.

The site is an amazing site with perfect pitches which are a great size and kept in amazing condition. The toilet block is up to date and kept in an excellent condition and very clean throughout.

Going midweek during school term meant the site was rather quiet and not many people were there. But even last year when the site was busy there was still no trouble and had no noisy campers.

Great little park for children. Which was great as the wife could take our 3 year old while I did the bulk setting up up and taking down etc.

Everything you need is on site at the site shop/reception with very friendly and very helpful staff. Cheryl even let us stay an extra hour on the last day so our tent could dry out after a rainy night, which helped a lot.

Again, such a great site with great staff. Would definitely recommend. Will be going back for a third time in the next few years.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked The Pitch was of a nice spaced area, with plenty of room away from neighbour. Large size camp site overall, was welcomed by Robert at reception who explained all we needed to know. liked the entry of a fob barrier gate for entry and exit, gave a good sense of security , the shower rooms are unique and of the best ive seen. with a decent flow of hot water, separate bowl for shaving too.
although we was only here 1 night we had a good night sleep as the site was VERY QUITE.
had a nice walk along a path which took us to the statue of a miner.

Disliked for my 1 night stay there was nothing to dislike

From the manager: Many thanks for your kind review Roger. We at Silverhill Woodland retreats look forward to your return.

Kind regards
Julie

Local attractions

Lovers of history can explore the National Trust-owned Hardwick Hall (10 minutes’ drive), an Elizabethan manor doubling up as Malfoy Manor in the Harry Potter franchise, while elegant Chatsworth House (35 minutes) has more than its fair share of opulent apartments to peek at as well as lovely riverside walks in its extensive. grounds. The fabled Peak District National Park (20 minutes) is the gateway to walking, cycling and geo-caching adventures around a multitude of trails including the High Peak and Monsal. You can also up the activity levels with climbing, water sports and caving. Weather against you? Families can still keep active with water slides and a wave machine at Water Meadows Swimming and Fitness Complex in Mansfield (15 minutes). The handsome, half-timbered centre of market town of Chesterfield (15 minutes) is overlooked by the remarkable Crooked Spire church – take a guided tour up the twisted tower to see it up close. Another pretty town worth visiting is Bakewell (40 minutes), where you can buy one of the town’s famous namesake tarts to eat in flower-filled Bath Gardens.
