  • Small pet-friendly site in rural Nottinghamshire with a communal feel
  • A five-minute drive from go-karting tracks and an alpaca centre
  • Communal firepit; pub and village shop within walking distance
If adventurous blood wasn't already running in your veins, it may very well do when you leave Moor Farm Campsite. Outdoor-driven escapes are not far away from here, given this small site's location in rural Nottinghamshire, 55 minutes’ drive away from Sherwood Forest. Those adventurous folks looking for a small, community feel are likely to fit in well here, as there are lots of communal spaces on site – including the crowning glory, a communal firepit with log seats. Surrounded by farmland and with basic facilities, the site lends itself to a nature-styled stay. There are great walks, cycling and clay pigeon shooting (on Thursdays and Sundays, five minutes’ walk away) all on the doorstep. For a little more excitement, there are local go-karting tracks with arrive and drive sessions, or an alpaca centre five minutes' drive away. This may be a countryside site, but that doesn’t mean it’s a world away. There’s a village shop and pub five minutes’ drive away (and more splendid spots further out). The A1 is also five miles away, Grantham and Newark 20 minutes’ drive away and Lincoln’s city attractions, showgrounds and events 40 minutes’ drive away. Pets of the canine and equestrian kind are both welcome here too as long as you book them in (thus making this a handy place to stay if you're involved in something at one of the British horse event locations nearby).

Local attractions

In the market for an outing that’s a little fancier than your typical day out? You’ll be off into the old stomping grounds of fashionable society in Clumber Park (50 minutes’ drive), now home to a country park in the grounds of a National Trust property. Burghley House (50 minutes) is another stately home, this time with a sculpture garden in its backyard and the Burghley Horse Trials once per year. Map out your way to the market towns… this area’s known for such places, including Grantham (20 minutes) and Newark-on-Trent (20 minutes), which has a historical castle and museum, plus a showground to stay in the present moment. Perhaps your group is on the lookout for activities to get your team (or competitive) spirit going. If so, Ancaster (15 minutes) has a few places that will start the spark, from bowling to paintball and laser tag. Or maybe you're already in the area for some significant event? That would make sense, as the wedding venue Stubton Hall (20 minutes’ walk) is close by, as is Arena UK (15 minutes' drive), an equestrian centre.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Campsite was clean and tidy. Nice to see the animals next door on the farm. There was a kitchen type area under shelter to use and some games we could play which was nice.

Disliked: Could do with proper toilets and running water.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Everything as we had the place to ourselves but is a very small area. Owner was very helpful before we arrived.

Disliked: Owners dog unsupervised barking at our children in the evening then a neighbour, his daughter and his male dog popping over on the Saturday and had to stop him peeing over our tent, he finally did it by the fire pit.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: A very quiet rural setting, with basic but adequate facilities, which is what we prefer, we hate big sites with a camp commandant style warden. Teri is a very friendly and helpful lady and everything is calm and laid back. It's nice if you like horses as she exercises hers in the adjacent paddock. The toilet was a standard portaloo functional and clean and the firepit area would be great for a family or small group. The area is isolated and rural, having dogs with us there was a pleasant walk up the road but there is nothing else of interest in the area. We used this site as a base to go the 6 miles into Newark for their Steampunk event

Disliked: Just a minor dislike, we had looked on the site map and it gives a location quite close to the junction with Brandon Road on the left-hand side, the GPS coordinates also gave this incorrect location. In reality, it is about half a mile up the road on the right-hand side after the massive farm barns. There was a tiny camping sign behind some vegetation only visible from 12 feet away. Teri had sent us an Email on the morning of our departure with details of the site location but we were busy and did not pick up the email. Could there not be a brief location detail on the pitchup site?

From the manager: Thank you for your review. I'm sorry the farm harvest disturbed your visit. Being a rural site we are surrounded by beautiful farmland but unfortunately at harvest time the machinery has to operate to bring the crops in when the weather is is right and the crops ready. This year because the crop was barley there was a fair amount of harvesting going on during your stay, this week it's all completed and the site is quite and undisturbed. I'm sorry for the disturbance during your visit.
