  • Peaceful off-grid site 15 minutes’ walk from the Trent Valley Way
  • A 20-minute drive from Belvoir Castle; 25 minutes from Nottingham
  • A scenic half-hour walk from pubs and restaurants; barbecues allowed
Peaceful, off-grid vibes and walks along the Trent Valley Way, yes please… Millview Camping is a completely off-grid site just 20 minutes’ drive from Nottingham city centre and 15 minutes’ walk from the 116-mile Trent Valley Way. With westerly views over the Trent Valley and in the shadows of a ruined 18th-century windmill, this is a peaceful and scenic place to take a break indeed… Well-positioned too, with a generous handful of pubs, restaurants and cafés a scenic 35 minutes’ walk away in Gunthorpe alongside the river Trent. Radcliffe on Trent and Bingham are five minutes’ drive away for any other amenities you might (supermarkets, shops, restaurants, pubs and the likes). And if you’re after even more of a buzz, Nottingham city centre is 25 minutes’ drive away. Even with such good access to so many towns and the big city, the site itself is remote. It has 10 acres of hay meadows and woodlands for guests to explore and, of course, sublime sunsets over the valley. If you prefer to keep your whole stay pretty rural, the Vale of Belvoir and the historic Belvoir Castle are 20 minutes’ drive away from the site. It’s no frills here. The grass and woodland pitches have facilities including water and portaloo access. Dogs are also permitted, as are barbecues.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The views from the site are wonderful. It is on an elevated position overlooking the Trent Valley. So great to watch the sunset in your deck chair with a nice glass of wine. It is a small site but there are enough places to spread out and not have to be too close to other campers. Other visitors have been respectful and kept noise down at night to make it a relaxing and peaceful campsite. There are no showers, but clean well kept toilets and a place to wash your dishes. Hammocks and fairy lights in the trees.
15 minute pleasant walk across fields to East Bridgford village, with a pub, church and local shop. Lots of wildlife to look out for, Red Kites, Pheasants and Hares spotted on my last visit.

Disliked: Wish there were shower facilities so I could extend my stay.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Quiet site. No set pitches so go where you want. Clean facilities. Some outdoor furniture, fire pits, and relaxation areas were available to use. Short grass. Level pitches. Firm ground. Spectacular views west facing views out over the Vale of Belvoir for an amazing sunset.

Disliked: Very windy. Site is on a hill so not sheltered. Very rutted track down to the site with some huge holes with sharp edges and bricks in them. No chemical toilet point that I could find.

From the manager: Thank you for your comments and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Sadly when the wind blows we are quite an exposed site. Great for views but can be windy.

The access track is also a farm track and deteriorates over the winter months due to the weather and heavy tractor use. We are now in the process of improving it and it is much improved since you visited. Thanks Tom

Lots of open space or private smaller secluded areas. Fantastic views over…

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: What a place feels like you are miles from anywhere, I was lucky I had the whole site to myself for 1 night. The views are wonderful especially on a clear sunny day you can see fields and hills for miles, great little toilets (I'm not that fully equipped for off grid) and washing up facilities. The bell tent areas look great and the little seating area in front of them is fab. Tom the owner popped across to make sure everything was ok. Definitely be coming back for a getaway with misses.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing

Local attractions

What setting might you have for a hike? Perhaps the green slopes of The Vale of Belvoir (20 minutes’ drive), where there are walks like the Barkestone Circular, Denton Reservoir and Stathern Wood. Sightseeing might count as a walk of sorts too, and there’s plenty of that to get stuck into around here. In Nottingham (25 minutes), take your pick of the castle, Wollaton Hall, art gallery and typical city centre attractions. Over in Southwell (20 minutes), you can follow up a visit to the minster by dining on local eats. Newark-on-Trent (20 minutes) has a castle too, plus an air museum. Handily, historic sites are easy to track down outside of the cities and towns. An old estate made to look like a castle with turrets, Belvoir Castle (20 minutes) now has a playground, pop-up markets, grand gardens and a whole shopping village. Newstead Abbey (half an hour), once the home of the poet Lord Byron, has 300 acres of gorgeous parkland. Or in the National Trust’s The Workhouse (20 minutes), you can take a look at the inside of a Victorian workhouse where the poor were once housed.
