  • Peaceful off-grid site 15 minutes’ walk from the Trent Valley Way
  • A 20-minute drive from Belvoir Castle; 25 minutes from Nottingham
  • A scenic half-hour walk from pubs and restaurants; barbecues allowed
Peaceful, off-grid vibes and walks along the Trent Valley Way, yes please… Millview Camping is a completely off-grid site just 20 minutes’ drive from Nottingham city centre and 15 minutes’ walk from the 116-mile Trent Valley Way. With westerly views over the Trent Valley and in the shadows of a ruined 18th-century windmill, this is a peaceful and scenic place to take a break indeed… Well-positioned too, with a generous handful of pubs, restaurants and cafés a scenic 35 minutes’ walk away in Gunthorpe alongside the river Trent. Radcliffe on Trent and Bingham are five minutes’ drive away for any other amenities you might (supermarkets, shops, restaurants, pubs and the likes). And if you’re after even more of a buzz, Nottingham city centre is 25 minutes’ drive away. Even with such good access to so many towns and the big city, the site itself is remote. It has 10 acres of hay meadows and woodlands for guests to explore and, of course, sublime sunsets over the valley. If you prefer to keep your whole stay pretty rural, the Vale of Belvoir and the historic Belvoir Castle are 20 minutes’ drive away from the site. It’s no frills here. The grass and woodland pitches have facilities including water and portable toilets. Dogs are also permitted, as are barbecues.

What customers say

This peaceful, off-grid spot has roomy, casual sites with lovely country and sunset views. Guests liked the clean, flush toilets and chill vibe, allowing campfires & music. While some found the access road and signs tricky, and no showers, it's a great, affordable getaway. Many plan to return!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We loved this campsite, we could camp in the open or in the trees and it had amazing views over Nottinghamshire. Watching the sunset was better than telly. Friendly staff greeted us and we could choose where we camped.

Disliked My son missed being able to have a shower but didn't bother the rest of us.

Broken lock on one of the toilets wasn't great.

Liked The views and some friendly campers.

Disliked We called on behalf of our friend as she was a Solo-travelling female doing UK tour cycling. We saw on the tracker that she'd arrived and 2 of us were trying to call number provided but no one answered. 50 minutes waiting and stil nothing so our friend started to set up tent but was told by a camper that it was all booked for a private function and that the owners had already left. Someone saw her getting upset and pointed to an area to set up. She spent the whole night worrying about someone kicking her out so she left first thing. Port-a-loo toilets but no lights and very limited water. Perhaps because it was all a last minute booking, nothing could be arranged or led to show her where to go, we got the information text 3 days later.

From the manager: Im saddened to hear about your friends experience with us. Im not sure what happened but suspect that the breakdown in communication may have resulted as it was booked by a third party. We always text on the morning of arrival with instructions so not sure why this was received three days later? Pitchup sends a list of arrivals for that day so to send the text three days later is unusual and would mean that I would have to have gone back through the records. Not something I would do.

Perhaps you could give me the name of the guest and the date on which they stayed? I can then get to the bottom of exactly what happened and learn from any mistakes. I do vaguely remember having a telephone conversation with you I think.

On no dates in June were the camping areas booked out in their entirety. I suspect that she may have approached a glamping guest who informed her that the separate glamping areas were booked out for a private function. This is standard for all weekends. If you can book a date through Pitchup then the camping areas are open to the general public

Whilst the facilities are basic, we do have two standpipes for water, washing up facilities and porcelain sinks and toilets in all four of the toilets. Whilst these are in plastic sheds these are not Port-a-loos.

Sorry for any distress caused. Please apologise to your friend. I hope her UK tour was a success.

Regards

Tom

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We had been at this campsite before and had a great time. I went at the end of May 2025 and had an even better time with friends. The site is really nice. Wasn't too busy, other campers were very respectful, and the staff were very accommodating. My friend forgot to bring a electric pump for his bougie air mattress and he contacted the staff who brought him a power generator to get it done. Will be coming back here for a peaceful getaway.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The views from the site are wonderful. It is on an elevated position overlooking the Trent Valley. So great to watch the sunset in your deck chair with a nice glass of wine. It is a small site but there are enough places to spread out and not have to be too close to other campers. Other visitors have been respectful and kept noise down at night to make it a relaxing and peaceful campsite. There are no showers, but clean well kept toilets and a place to wash your dishes. Hammocks and fairy lights in the trees.
15 minute pleasant walk across fields to East Bridgford village, with a pub, church and local shop. Lots of wildlife to look out for, Red Kites, Pheasants and Hares spotted on my last visit.

Disliked Wish there were shower facilities so I could extend my stay.

Local attractions

What setting might you have for a hike? Perhaps the green slopes of The Vale of Belvoir (20 minutes’ drive), where there are walks like the Barkestone Circular, Denton Reservoir and Stathern Wood. Sightseeing might count as a walk of sorts too, and there’s plenty of that to get stuck into around here. In Nottingham (25 minutes), take your pick of the castle, Wollaton Hall, art gallery and typical city centre attractions. Over in Southwell (20 minutes), you can follow up a visit to the minster by dining on local eats. Newark-on-Trent (20 minutes) has a castle too, plus an air museum. Handily, historic sites are easy to track down outside of the cities and towns. An old estate made to look like a castle with turrets, Belvoir Castle (20 minutes) now has a playground, pop-up markets, grand gardens and a whole shopping village. Newstead Abbey (half an hour), once the home of the poet Lord Byron, has 300 acres of gorgeous parkland. Or in the National Trust’s The Workhouse (20 minutes), you can take a look at the inside of a Victorian workhouse where the poor were once housed.
