  • Pop-up off-grid glampsite five minutes' drive from Brackley
  • A 15-minute drive to Silverstone or Stowe
  • Well-equipped bell tents with a barbecue plus bedding and towels
Stay under the stars at Artichokes and Alchemy, a pop up, off-grid glamping site in the Northamptonshire countryside. Located five minutes' drive from Brackley, the site has a small number of bell tents sleeping up to four. This splendid spot is just next to an alpaca paddock, while other animals like the site’s goats and chickens are just a short walk away… Facilities at Artichokes and Alchemy include a shared off-grid (but warm) 'jungle' shower and a compost toilet (with eco-friendly toiletries provided), as well as private access to a barbecue with a gas burner and a firepit – one bag of logs, kindling and fire starters is included, and more can be purchased on site as and when required. Inside, each tent has a double bed and two singles, with bedding and towels ready and waiting for you. Kitchen essentials for cooking and alfresco dining are also included. Out and about nearby? Brackley, just up the road, is where to head for supermarkets, local pubs and restaurants. Alternatively, if you want to get a taste of the best of the local area's produce, you could make tracks for Barnowl Farm Shop (a mile away), which is even closer to base.

Local attractions

Here you can explore Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire and beyond, as many of Central England's best attractions are within easy reach. Kick things off at Stowe (15 minutes), a gorgeous National Trust property with a historic house and gardens. With 880 acres to take in, you can get a good few miles underfoot here – after which you should definitely reward yourself at the on-site café with a slice of cake or two… Next, there's Blenheim Palace (20 minutes), a must-see stately home just north of Oxford that was once Winston Churchill's childhood home. At the other end of the spectrum, you can see where racing history is made at Silverstone (15 minutes), the home of British Formula 1 since the sport began in the 1950s. If shopping's more up your alley, then head to Bicester Village (15 minutes), where a wide choice of big brand designer outlets and excellent restaurants will allow you to eat, drink and try out new styles to your heart's content. Many of the shops here offer discounts that you won't find anywhere else, so make sure to leave a little room in your suitcase for the gems that you're sure to stumble across while browsing.
