  • Peaceful site in Benniworth village, 15 minutes' drive from Louth
  • A 40-minute drive from the beaches at Skegness and Mablethorpe
  • Two-acre smallholding with resident alpacas, pigs and chickens
Looking for a peaceful base for Lincolnshire larks? Homestead Fields Caravan and Camping, in the village of Benniworth, is a quiet smallholding site that should fit the bill. Country, coast and town trips are all easily sorted here – this two-acre park is on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with some top walks and bike rides to be had pretty much as soon as you set foot outside the park. The east coast seaside resorts of Skegness, Ingoldmells and Mablethorpe, meanwhile, are all around 40 minutes' drive away. The genteel Georgian market town of Louth is also close by (15 minutes), while the grand old city of Lincoln is about half an hour away.  If you’ve still got energy left after that little lot, stroll along to the local pub in 40 minutes or so for dinner (if you're hungry, drive it in five instead). Rather spend some time on site? Stick around to light up a barbecue and make pals with some of the site's resident alpacas, chickens and pigs.  Dogs are welcome to join you on your jaunt here – there’s a dog walking area where they can stretch their paws, as well as a free wifi connection for folk who’d like to catch up with the outside world while their pup investigates the sights and smells of their new surrounds.

Lazy Days bell tent

Liked: A very well kept site, nice and clean. The Alpacas are a great addition and we enjoyed feeding carrots to them. The bell tent was beautiful and had some lovely finishing touches. Some real thought has gone into it and the owners were genuinely interested in your stay and asked questions on how they could improve your experience. There was a super comfy king size bed as well as 2 single camp beds. The kids said their beds were comfy as well. Inside there was a mini fridge, tea and coffee, toaster, fresh laid eggs, milk, sausages and a plum loaf! An air fryer is available to use, and a BBQ outside. There was plenty of camp chairs and a picnic bench with a parasol to use. Toilets and showers were very clean and tidy. There is a small wooden park for the kids to play on as well. We loved our stay and will be going back and recommending to our family and friends.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: What an absolute gem of a site, very relaxing and peaceful. Showers and toilets well maintained and very quirky which we absolutely loved. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The alpacas were so cute and it was nice just to stand at the fence and watch them with a cold beer. The site is well maintained and the pitch sizes are generous, the added picnic bench for your pitch was a great added touch. Great little dog walk on site which was just enough for our old pooch.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: I liked the location of the site. It was a short driving distance to lots of villages and things to do. The site itself was clean, with a very chilled, laid back feel about it all, with the pitches being close together but not intrusive. This meant I could stay in my tent in peace, but very quicklygo see family who were staying there also. Logs for fire pits and eggs were on offer to buy and the owner was very nice and friendly. The outdoor showers were fantastic and well kept, as were the toilets and outdoor sink area to wash any dishes. There was also a small fridge freezer that could be used by anyone staying there. There was also a small park for the children to play on, with a llama field to visit the farms herd of llamas. I hadn't been camping in well over 10 years, so all in all a pleased experience from the start.

Disliked: In the pictures there is a patio/pergola area that I could not see on site. There was also a vending machine and small ice-cream fridge. It's not a major deal, but could have been nice for the younger children staying with us to get a treat if they wanted to. Again this wasn't an issue, but the pictures may need updating.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: The kids park, outer perimeter for walking and seeing the alpacas. Great location for other tourists actions like the wildlife park and nature reserve.

Disliked: The facilities are good, but could do with another wash up station.

Alpaca fields primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: everything it was brilliant
very well thought out and maintained
very clean and cared for
large pitches
fresh farm eggs a bonus
very dog friendly with a designated dog walk with dog waste bins
this site proves what can be done to make the camping experience enjoyable by providing all the essentials well - Dean and Ali have worked very hard to fully satisfy their listing - pitch up rating 9.6 yes absolutely I just wonder what lost them the last 0.4 points to make a perfect 10

Disliked: nothing

Liked: Lovely spot, ideal for cycling the Lincolnshire Wolds. Quiet site with well spaced and very well tended pitches. Toilets, showers and washing up facilities are rustic but exceptionally clean. Really appreciated the free WiFi and being able to buy lovely fresh eggs.

Local attractions

Wanders around the Wolds start at the site gate. Hiking across the flat landscape should be pretty easy for most walkers: strolls up from Benniworth to Donington or Bain along the old railway line are highly recommended. For walks around a man-made landscape instead, head down to Walled Garden Baumber (10 minutes' drive), a kooky plant haven where green-fingered guests can also treat themselves to a cream tea.  Top towns in the local area include Louth (15 minutes) with its Georgian architecture and Spout Yard park, and Horncastle (15 minutes) for bargain-hunting on the high street's many antique shops. Lincoln (30 minutes) is another must-see stop on any trip here: head to the castle for medieval history or climb up to the cathedral's viewing gallery and admire the cityscape below.  For kid-pleasing days, try the cute animals at Rand Farm Park (15 minutes) or the bigger beasts on display at Woodside Wildlife Park (20 minutes). Family-friendly beach time can also be arranged – head to Mablethorpe or Skegness (both 40 minutes) if you want to feel the sand between your toes.
