  • Family- and dog-friendly site in the Lincolnshire Fens
  • Adventurers’ haven: walking, biking and riding routes, and boat hire
  • Slow-paced site: golfing and fishing less than 10 minutes’ walk away
Don your explorers’ cap for oodles of hiking, biking, riding and boating… At Springfield Farm Campsite, a family-friendly site half an hour’s drive from Spalding market town in Lincolnshire, they’re all part of a relaxing getaway. Inside the Lincolnshire Fens, Springfield Farm is a prime jumping-off spot for exploration of this part of Cambridgeshire – there are tons of trails criss-crossing the Fens that should suit cyclists, ramblers and horseback riders down to the marshland ground, and you can hire a narrowboat for a day of tootling along the Fens’ small rivers in March (30 minutes away). For that sedate experience, net yourself some prime lakeside seating and cast a line out at North View Fishing Lakes, less than a minute’s drive or 10 minutes’ walk from the site, or play a round at the neighbouring Gedney Hill Golf Course instead. Back on site, there’s play equipment, petting animals, table tennis, football and basketball for the whole family – even your pups will be kept busy with a few turns in the enclosed dog walk area. Once you’ve all worked up an appetite, head to the shared kitchen or fire up the barbecue and get to cooking (you can grab supplies from the grocery store two minutes down the road or one of the larger supermarkets in Wisbech, half an hour away). If you’d prefer a change of scenery, try one of the restaurants within 15 minutes of Springfield Farm.

What customers say

This family-friendly campground gets props for its friendly owners and roomy sites. Lots of kid activities like play structures, go-karts, and feeding animals. The on-site cafe, The Pantry, is a hit for tasty cakes and pizzas. While facilities are usually clean, some mention the toilets could use a refresh. Wi-Fi's only at the cafe. Despite small things, guests often want to come back.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked What a wonderful site this is. It is small and quiet with the playground in the middle - ideal for being able to keep an eye on the kids from the tent, while they play. Our kids absolutely loved that there was a toy area where they happily spent a lot of their time. The toilets were quite basic but my husband commented the shower was one of the best he'd had! The owner, Claire was very helpful and kind; we appreciated being able to stick around past check out time to be part of the animal feeding and she was really helpful if we had an questions, especially when our 5 year old decided to inform her that one of the toys wasn't working!

Disliked The wifi and signal was a bit hit and miss, but not really a priority if you're camping.

Sadly the days we stayed didn't line up with the cafe being opened, but we were able to pop in briefly after check out and got some very tasty alpaca shortbread biscuits for the road.

Not actually related to the campsite but be warned that the roads in the area are very bumpy - our kids screamed in delight as we went over the bumps but do go slowly to prevent damage to your car!

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked Small and very family friendly, play equipment right in the centre where kids are easy to keep an eye on. Good clean facilities and added bonus of farm animals! Lovely pizza made on site too.

Disliked Not the sites fault but the roads are very bumpy on the way to the site so care needed.

Local attractions

Start your stay at Springfield Farm Campsite by exploring the surrounding towns and villages: visit the bi-weekly markets and try your hand at pottery painting in Spalding, marvel at the ruined abbey and three-sided bridge in Crowland, and scoot over to Wisbech for Elgood’s Brewery and Peckover House and Gardens. If Peckover has whetted your appetite for stately old piles, you’re well served around here: the spectacular Oxburgh Hall and Tattershall are both within an hour of the site, and you can feel like nobility at the British Royal Family's country retreat at Sandringham, 45 minutes away. Want a change from bricks and mortar? Get out in nature at the Wash National Nature Reserve, 45 minutes from Springfield Farm, or stick closer to base with stops at Baytree Owl and Wildlife Centre and Skylark Garden Centre, Maze and Funyard. Take a break from the touristy traipsing to burn a hole in your pocket at Springfields Shopping Outlet, giving the kids (and your card) time to cool off between shops at Adventure Land and re-finding your zen post-spree in the Springfields Festival Gardens.
