  • Rural site on 38 acres of grassland at a Lincolnshire family farm
  • Five minutes' drive to Newark; 20 minutes to Lincoln city centre
  • Games tent on site (during summer holidays); families and dogs welcome
Off to the Lincolnshire countryside in search of fresh air and open space? You’ll find plenty of both at Roman Stone Campsite – pitches at this site are part of a family farm with 38 acres of grassland, so there should be plenty of space for all guests to spread out. That means you’ll be able to set your pitch up just as you want it, bringing along a barbecue, gazebo, awning and outdoor furniture if you like… and you’re also allowed to bring dogs with you as long as they’re well behaved. Whether you choose to keep things simple or create something more elaborate, you’ll have access to all the site’s amenities including chemical disposal, a washing-up area, showers and compost toilets. Along with those essentials are a few facilities that will be particularly handy for those travelling with active kids (or active grownups, for that matter…). There’s also a tent with indoor games for those times when the weather’s not being kind (available during the summer holidays). There’s plenty of space for dog walking too, if you’ve brought the hound along. Days out around here might involve outdoor pursuits including walks, fishing and watersports, or they might take you off to various National Trust properties or into the centre of Lincoln or Newark. Getting out to any of these should be easy, as the site is just next to the A46. Hedging along the road means that pitches are well screened, but please note that there is likely to be some road noise.

Primitive grass campsite

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Lots of space to set up away from other campers. Easy to locate and simple to access.

Disliked: Probably best to take your own toilet paper since all but 1 toilet was out. Also quite noisy due to proximity to a very busy road.
