  • Mablethorpe beach half an hour’s drive; Wolds Wildlife Park 10 minutes
  • Well-equipped kitchen, plus barbecue and pizza oven outside
For some rural relaxation amid considerable comfort, you may well hit the jackpot with a stay at Beck House Glamping in the sleepy Lincolnshire village of Salmonby. This working farm site is home to Peppercorn Pod, a contemporary glamping unit designed to a high standard and set in a private paddock with stunning Wolds views. Stylish accommodation – designed especially for two – encompasses a comfy double bed, ensuite shower room (towels included), a sofa bed for leisurely evenings watching the flatscreen TV, and a smart, well-equipped kitchen corner with everything you need to produce tasty meals. Extra bonuses include wifi and electricity, plus underfloor heating to keep you nice and warm. Patio doors open onto a covered private balcony with outdoor seating, a barbecue and pizza oven (you can source foodie treats in Horncastle, 10 minutes’ drive). Some complimentary logs are provided for the firepit, with additional firewood available to buy on site, along with charcoal for the barbecue. A footpath passing near the pod leads to hiking trails on the Wolds, and cycling routes (some quite hilly) are easy to access from rural lanes. Should all that sound like too much effort, hang out on site to enjoy the sight of cows and sheep grazing adjacent fields, spend peaceful times at the wildlife pond or see if you can spot barn owls or deer around the farm.

Peppercorn camping pod

Liked: This place is a hidden gem. There’s nothing not to like about it. It’s immaculate with all facilities available to make the perfect glamping experience. The grounds are stunning and so quiet with peace and tranquility and no noisy neighbours. And only 10 minutes drive from Cadwell Park. The hosts Miranda and John are first class hosts. If you’re nice enough John will even give you a ride on his ww2 jeep which made my partners day. Will definitely be back. Top class 5 stars

Local attractions

Aviation enthusiasts can have a field day with air shows at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Museum (15 minutes’ drive), home to the restored Lancaster bomber ‘Just Jane’. Guided tours of The Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight Visitors Centre (25 minutes) allow you to get up close to Spitfires and Hurricanes, or you can head for the Dogdyke Road viewing area at RAF Coningsby (25 minutes) to watch Eurofighter jets fly overhead several times a week. Is a day at the beach calling? There’s a swathe of sand at Mablethorpe (half an hour) backed by crazy golf courses and a fairground, while its little sister Sutton on Sea (35 minutes) is an altogether quieter spot with designated safe swimming areas. For some wildlife spotting on the North Sea coastline, visit Donna Nook National Nature Reserve (40 minutes) in November and December to see the grey seal colonies, or head to Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary and Wildlife Centre (half an hour) to become a keeper for the day and feed injured seals or birds of prey. Closer to base camp, the Wolds Wildlife Park (10 minutes) is home to big cats and bears in spacious enclosures.
