  • Peaceful adults-only touring caravan park in Lincolnshire
  • Five-minutes' drive from Sutton-on-Sea and sandy beaches
  • Weekly fish and chips van during the summer season
Set midway between the eastern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds and the sandy beaches of Sutton-on-Sea, The Old Barn Retreat is a peaceful adults-only park for touring caravans located just outside the traditional village of Markby. With spacious pitches, big open skies and well-maintained grounds, this is a prime spot to spend a few days in the great outdoors. The site has a number of handy amenities, including a central decking area with picnic tables, a large facilities block with clean toilets and showers and a chemical waste disposal point. The Old Barn Retreat is a safe spot, with a secure entrance gate and lots of privacy. There are also ornamental features, including a fish pond. Staying here during the summer season? A local fish and chip van pulls up at The Old Barn Retreat every Thursday night (at around 7.30pm) during the peak season to bring tasty chip shop favourites to guests. At other times, it's easy to take yourself down to the pub at Alford (10 minutes' drive) or Sutton-on-Sea (five minutes), where there are also food shops, takeaways and a range of restaurants.

Liked The prettiest site we've ever stayed at. Great size piches, clearly marked ( we've had trouble at other sites) very friendly, helpful staff, that also leave you to enjoy your stay. Spotless facilities. Fab dog friendly beech short drive away, with very cheap parking. Would definitely stay again.

Disliked A pub or shop within walking distance would be nice, but a short drive away if needed.

Liked Absolutely everything, this was our 3rd visit to this wonderful site
We were as before on our previous visits delighted with the peace and quiet, the beautiful surroundings, large level pitches and fantastic immaculately clean facilities.
It was wonder weather and absolute bliss to just sit and listen to the birds.
The site is dog friendly, adults only and the owners are so welcoming, friendly and helpful.
We even had an ice cream van visit, which was much appreciated.

Disliked Nothing at all.

Liked Excellent site, good sized pitches, very well laid out, great facilities, the location is very good for getting to the various local town's and the coast, we like walking so it was a good central point for us to go on lots of walks.
Will definitely use this site again, and the fish & chips from the van that goes each week are brilliant.

Liked Old Barn Retreat is an immaculately kept camping site with well tended flower beds, hedges and lawns, the facilities are very clean and all the buildings that house them are very well looked after.

Disliked Feel petty saying these as dislikes but I want to be as honest as possible, one of our pet hates is paying for showers, not because of the cost but the need to have pound coins on hand which we rarely do, the other very small thing were the the sinks in the toilets, they were very small and slightly awkward to use.

Liked We loved everything, the owners and the site warden are so friendly and informative. Full instructions for the site are emailed with a detailed plan of the site, free WiFi is kindly provided and the password needed and the code for the barrier.
The site is so well cared for, with beautiful flower beds between the large, good sized, level pitches and gorgeous flowerpots and planters placed around the site.
In the centre of the site, there is a pretty seating area with a cute pond, its a lovely relaxing spot to sit and enjoy the sound of the water and the birds.
The old barn retreat really is a wildlife haven, it’s a lovely and peaceful, relaxing site.
The facilities are absolutely immaculate, with spotlessly clean showers and toilets. There’s an area for washing up, it’s all clearly laid out and there is an area for bin waste and chemical waste.
There really is nothing to dislike, it’s also dog friendly with a large dog walking area, there’s even an information area and a book lending facility.
Thank you for kindly storing and returning our doormat, that we unfortunately left behind when we last stayed with you.

Disliked Nothing.

Local attractions

Sutton-on-Sea (five minutes by car) has a wide sandy beach where dogs are welcome. Just to the south there's also the Sandilands Pit Nature Reserve, a wildlife haven with sand dunes and lots of other interesting habitats. Continue along the coast and you'll quickly reach popular seaside spots like Moggs Eye (15 minutes) and Anderby (15 minutes), where there's a beachside café for post-paddle snacks. Inland, the market town of Louth (25 minutes) has a great selection of independent shops, Georgian architecture and fab places to eat. Alternatively, you could pack up a picnic and head off to visit the ruins of Bolingbroke Castle (30 minutes), call in at the local donkey sanctuary (10 minutes) or head into the Lincolnshire Wolds (about a quarter of an hour away) for walks, bike rides and country pubs galore. Lincolnshire's well known as being a hotspot for aviation buffs, and this part of the county is no exception. For exhibits about bomber command during the Second World War, head to East Kirkby's Aviation Heritage Centre (25 minutes). If you're happy to travel slightly further afield, the Battle Of Britain Memorial (45 minutes) is also well worth a visit.
