  • Quiet site at the rear of a Leicestershire country pub
  • Calke Abbey Estate and Donington Park Circuit both 15 minutes’ drive
  • Family-friendly restaurant with a bar and beer garden
Looking for a quiet Leicestershire bolthole in the National Forest? Your search is over. Kingsmoor Retreat is a well-kept campsite at the rear of a country pub and restaurant 10 minutes’ drive from Coalville, with neatly maintained grass pitches for tents and tourers. If you feel the urge to do some alfresco cooking, barbecues are allowed on site and there are picnic tables for alfresco meals. However, the neighbouring pub may be too much temptation, drawing you in with its local ales and menu of family favourites. There’s a beer garden for warmer days, and a cosy snug heated by woodburner for chillier times. The leisure centre in Coalville has a gym, swimming pool and café (a great option for keeping kids happy if the weather goes rogue on you), and close by is a very posh spa (10 minutes) for when you’re in need of some TLC. There are also plenty of walks to access from your pitch in the National Forest, which should keep you – any accompanying dogs – well exercised.

What customers say

This is a friendly, clean, welcoming site with generally good-sized, flat pitches and nice facilities. The adjacent pub gets high marks for its excellent food and atmosphere. However, some guests noted issues with toilet/shower cleanliness & maintenance, lack of hot water for washing dishes, and insufficient bins. Occasional pub noise has also been mentioned.

Liked Everything about our stay at Kingsmoor Retreat was perfect. The site facilities were excellent and although a busy bank holiday weekend, it was still peaceful and relaxing. The site is managed by a very friendly and helpful warden who makes everyone feel welcome. The onsite pub is a real treasure and the restaurant “ Mexi-Dans” is absolutely first class. Will definitely be staying again.
