  • Simple rural Herefordshire site five minutes' drive from Bodenham
  • A 15-minute drive from Hereford and Leominster
  • Dog-friendly site with Saturday night campfire gatherings
For a properly laidback place to unwind outdoors, check out Kingfisher Meadow Camping and Caravanning Park, a simple site just outside Bodenham in the Herefordshire countryside. Hereford town centre is a 15-minute drive from here, with the A417 a handy two-minute drive if you’re looking to get out and about further afield. All is brilliantly set up here to help you make the most of peaceful outdoor life – there’s a sizeable pond on site for wildlife-watching and sunset-spotting, and the whole place is surrounded by quiet fields and farmland. There's also ample opportunity for strolling and cycling nearby (in the company of a canine companion if you’ve brought one along – they’re welcome on site), with both the Malvern Hills and Wye Valley within easy reach. Plenty of other day trips beckon further afield – there's a strong chance that Ludlow, Worcester, Bromyard or Ross-on-Wye will make an appearance on your list… Barbecues and campfires are allowed on site, with firepits available to hire and logs to buy. On Saturday nights there's a special campfire evening to bring the whole community together, where one and all are invited to gather round a big blaze for a sociable evening by the flames. For non-self-cooked meals, there are also a couple of country inns within a 10-minute drive, plus supermarkets over in Leominster (15 minutes).

Molly on-site travel trailer

Liked Absolutely loved our stay at the kingfisher meadow. The staff were so friendly, the atmosphere was lovely and yet we still had our own space. The bomb fire with the fire truck was just truly so special. Our 3 year old was able to be a kid and run and play in the park we went for a walk round the lake. She cried when we had to leave.
We've booked again. And we really can't wait to go in September
Woukd recommend this sight to everyone and anyone

Primitive grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked I liked everything really. We will be back for sure. The crazy glamping options were great, the site was maintained nicely and Darren was really friendly and helpful, and let us park our van alongside my sisters family who were glamping (in a fire engine!). The disco was completely unidirectional- loud on one side of the disco fire engine and quiet on the other- which was perfect for when we had to leave it. And they took requests for drum and bass tracks. The campfire was large and impressive. The toilet block and washing up area were good too, though the lighting in the women's was a little bit haphazard so take a torch just in case. When working, it was fine. The river nearby was gorgeous for jumping about in, the England Gate pub had a nice beer garden and the food was alright.

Disliked The only possible thing to say is the lack of hot shower- there are two cold outdoor showers by the toilet emptying thing, but they are public and very cold. A shower instead of one of the toilets in the toilet block would elevate it to the best campsite ever, I think.

Very welcoming, Kids Park, chilled vibe, fire engine disco, fire pit, lovely…

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Family friendly space- really can let the kids run wild whilst still being safe and seen!
Little ones loved the fire engine disco, nothing like we'd seen before.

Disliked Wish I knew to bring marshmallows for the fire, that's it no complaints.

Liked We stayed in Big Red and it absolutely did not disappoint. The accomodation was spot less, the facilities were clean and well lit, the site was child friendly and the hosts were super welcoming and super helpful on our arrival and throughout. A MUST visit

From the manager: Thank you for the great photos and lovely feedback.
We try to be a bit different and offer both parents and kiddies a great time.

Maybe the yellow digger is next on the quirky visit!

Local attractions

Herefordshire vodka? At the local distillery (10 minutes' drive), locally-produced potatoes are used to make a tempting alternative to the county's far-famed perry and cider. If you'd rather go with the traditional option, it's also an easy 10-minute drive to Newton Court, the closest cider mill. Once in a suitably mellow mood, head for Hereford (15 minutes), where the cathedral, Mappa Mundi exhibit and Black and White House Museum supply visitors with a bevy of family-friendly afternoons out. To stick with the historical theme, perhaps call in at the National Trust's Berrington Hall (15 minutes), a neoclassical country pile with great walks around well-kept grounds. You can't really come to this part of the world and not pass through Ludlow: with finger-licking food outlets, top-rated markets and a castle, there's something here for almost all comers. Finally, those with energy left to expend can burn it off by stomping through the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour), where conquering the peaks and valleys is sure to leave you with a sense of supreme satisfaction.
