Grass pitches

  • Peaceful farm site with pitches in a well-maintained orchard
  • On the edge of the Malvern Hills, 30 minutes' drive from Gloucester
  • Dog-friendly site; five minutes' drive from the motorway network
Beat a retreat from your workaday cares at Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site, a well-maintained spot close to where the Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire borders meet. With spacious pitches, quiet orchard surrounds and easy access to the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty all sorted, all that remains is for you to pack up your kit and drive over here – a task made splendidly straightforward by the fact that this site's a mere five-minute drive from the speedy M50. Once you've pulled up at this rural spot, you could spend days cloud-gazing in the orchard, tramping through the Malvern Hills (perhaps with a dog or two in tow) or visiting cathedral cities like Gloucester (30 minutes' drive) and Worcester (35 minutes). After jam-packed sightseeing jaunts (or days of nothing but sweet repose…), hungry stomachs can be satisfied with a barbecue on site or treated to chef-cooked grub at the nearest pub (40 minutes on foot or a five-minute drive). Provisions for self-prepped meals can be picked up in nearby Ledbury (15 minutes). As is expected when staying at a small-scale farm, here you can expect peace, quiet and splendid views, but you won't come back to base to find a chocolate on your pillow. Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site is relatively low on frills, but key facilities like composting toilets, showers and a washing-up area are all on hand.

Liked Some farm animals to see

Disliked You are required to call them once arrived and just told where to go over the phone. No one showed us where we could pitch or where the faculties were. The ground was a little bumpy. There very few toilets and showers so people had to queue. The ones that were there were not in a good state. Water backs up in the showers. They are not that clean. Facilities were poor.

Liked Everything. The location, the simplicity, people were so friendly!
Our two girls, 4 & 2 loved having the animals so close. Both were able to stoke the different animals. Lovely touch of selling sausages and eggs in the morning.
All facilities were kept to a high standard.

Disliked Slight downside as we pitched close to entrance having three small children the footfall was at times slightly more noisy that we would have liked. However no one’s fault. Just we didn’t think when agreeing to that particular pitch. Next time will ask to be further in.

Liked What a weekend absolutely loved the site.. Everything we needed was there...Camping on a working farm and got to see the animals.. The site was lovely.. Owners were polite we even bought produce from them.. Special mention to jen she looked tired from working but was a lovely lady.. The m50 wasn't a problem like previous reviews...would I go back? Hell yes and can't wait to return btw pizza's during busy times a good idea. 😉

Disliked Had so little time and break went fast.. Pubs a good walk but a car really is needed being no paths on the roads.. In no way should this be a dislike to the campsite

Liked We loved the old school homely feel, it was like camping in your own back garden with lots more space, amenities, friendly vibe and resident farm animals including Penelope the pig who ate all our fruit and scraps ( except meat).
We had a motorhome plus motorcycle and we were central to some gorgeous places like Ledbury and the Malverns.
Sunday lunch in the Farmers Arms was recommend and we could see why, gorgeous.
Jen and team were absolutely lovely, thank you for loaning me a compressor for the motorcycle tyre after the puncture and happy to say we got home safe and new tyre fitted.....thanks again.
The sausages and eggs purchased on site are delicious, which are gluten free and top notch.
We will be back., thanks again Sean & Lianne

Liked Great size pitches (8×8m) even though pitchup states 6x6m.
The team are lovely, facilities are well maintained.
My daughter loved the animals on the farm and would visit them daily.
Yes, as some people do mention, you can hear the M50 on the evenings, however it is still quite quiet and it's barely noticeable.
Relaxed atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Will definitely be returning again!

Thank you for making us feel welcome and at home!

Liked Very old fashioned attitude to camping like the good old days the owners were friendly and helpful the site is small but well maintained. The kids put down their devices and made friends with other kids it was lovely to see. The electric easily accommodated our needs without tripping every few minutes. It is remote but I personally love that but is only a few minuets drive to major road network so easily accessible.
Its a working farm so the animals are about for the kids to see and watch them being fed in the mornings.

It was a great place for a long weekend to relax and have fun we were off site during the day but in the evening we sat chatting with other campers they allow BBQ's as long as they are off the ground and make their own sausages which are out of this world and you can order them to take home, a really nice find and we will revisit

Disliked We were in the top of the field so were quite a way from the toilets so with young children we had to keep asking as we didn't want accidents, the toilets are clean but very small and could do with updating especially trying to shower 3 children in one little room but I'm sure in time these will be changed. The only other thing the washing facilities were sinks outside it made no difference to us as we had great weather but if raining it would make washing up a very wet affair

From the manager: Thanks for booking

Thanks for taking the time to review.

Re shower rooms there are 4 rooms. 2 room that are substantially larger. we would have pointed you toward them if you said you wanted to be able to get yourself and 3 children in in one go!

The actual showers are large but only meant for 1 person at a time. Although 3 can easily be used for 1 adult and a toddler.

If you had mentioned about needing to be fairly close to toilets we could have sorted it. please mention this when booking to us- thanks.

We are just about to double up on the washing up area size wise. However in 6 years its only the second time its been mentioned.

Thanks for mentioning our sausage's. We have them specially made for us.

Kind regards

Henri's Hut shepherd's hut

Liked Henri’s shepherds hut was lovely, and well thought out for the space available. It was clean. The outdoor space was good. The toilet/ shower/ washing facilities were really close.
We especially liked the friendly atmosphere on the site. The owner was really engaging and offered us a free firepit and coals.
It was great value for money.
Additionally it was a great base for the Malvern’s and site seeing.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely and peaceful friendly atmosphere, amount of toilet facilities and the simple but easy recycling system.

Disliked One toilet room seems to have a rotten floor so when you sit on the toilet it feels as though you are sinking through the floor.

From the manager: Thanks for booking

Thanks for review.

We will investigate re floor and get a temporary repair done and sort out of season.

Local attractions

Set out for a recce of the Malvern Hills (five minutes' drive) and it shouldn't take long to find a spot to stretch your legs. Hollybush car park (10 minutes) is a pretty good place to start – here there are two scenic circular trails that can also be walked as a figure of eight if you're feeling energetic. It’s also half an hour to Symonds Yat for kayaking on the Wye, climbing and seeking out the peregrine falcons, goshawks and other raptors that breed on top of the rock. The Gloucester branch of the National Waterways Museum (30 minutes) is within a comfortable distance too if you'd prefer interactive exhibits and a narrowboat cruise. You'll likely want to be outdoors as much as poss when in these parts, so earmark some time for visits to Eastnor (10 minutes) and Goodrich castles (25 minutes). Trips over the border into Wales should also be on your radar if you're tempted to explore the overgrown ruins of Grosnor Castle (45 minutes), the handsome market town of Abergavenny (50 minutes) or the Brecon Beacons National Park (from 45 minutes).
