  • Family-run pub site between Worcestershire and Herefordshire
  • Tewkesbury and Upton-upon-Severn both within five miles
  • Locally-produced food served Tuesday to Saturday; carvery on Sunday
Once you’re all pitched up, you can head straight in for a pint or a wine – this park is rather handily tagged onto a cosy pub. The Hunters Inn, on the edge of Longdon village, is a handy four miles from the historic town of Tewkesbury around half an hour’s drive from Cheltenham, and also within easy reach of several of the area’s most famed historic attractions, including Tewkesbury Abbey, Gloucester Cathedral and Hartlebury Castle. The Malvern Hills are also a cinch to get to for walks and big bike rides, and the water meadow at Severn Ham, just outside Tewkesbury, is smashing for a bit of wildlife spotting and birdwatching. When you’re done with days of Worcestershire sightseeing, return back to base for a barbecue. However, if you’d rather have someone else do the cooking, then the pub serves some pretty great locally sourced food instead. There’s a nice sprinkling of entertainment here too: if you’re there for the pub’s monthly quiz, you can exercise some brain cells for a crack at winning the Hunters’ pub quiz crown.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked We arrived, and were told exactly where our pitch was, and fortunately we were pitched in a quiet area, as the site was very busy. We had a peaceful nights sleep, and only stopped one night. We were on our way to east Devon.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Simplicity,
Pub meals,
Friendly staff
Toilet blocks kept clean

Disliked Pitchup confusion.
2nd time I booked, the small tent pitches were unavailable on pitchup even though they were all unoccupied. So I ended up with a massive pitch I did not need.

From the manager: Thanks for your review, I am sorry about the confusion about the pitches, we don't have different size pitches just different type pitches. Allocation is made on the day of the visit depending on which pitch type you have booked.

Ok for an overnight.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Easy access

Disliked Toilet facilities very poor.
Have to pay extra for electric even though booked an electric pitch and wasn’t obvious in booking that you had to pay for this on arrival.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Fairly small, quiet site with large pitches, close to Tewkesbury & Upton.
Toilets (2 each in Male & Female) were clean & shower (1 each) which was hot.

Pub on-site

Disliked Shower in Ladies had broken door & broken cubicle, so was just about functional.
Washing-up facilities were minimal & basic

Sadly the food in the pub was not particularly good, despite reading good reviews( maybe it depends on choice?) My risotto was inedible - (thick, stodgy gloop)but the staff were uninterested. The pork was grey & the pie (which had good pastry) lacked flavour. I wouldn’t recommend it personally

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Proximity to pub, gardens, encloses secure site. Kids play area.

Disliked They had recently had a bush fire at the back of the site which may have been from A campfire or bbq. Food only served until 8:30. Mon-Frid. Thought we'd already paid for electric but needed to pay £3 for a single night hookup.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked It’s a quiet site in a good location for Tewkesbury, Gloucester and Welland where we went to the yearly steam show. And the pub is very good for lunches and dinners the stag are very friendly and helpful. been before so decided to book again.

Disliked The only downside to the site is that the toilet/ shower block is in desperate need of refurbishing. We took our 9 year old twin grandsons and they only used the shower once and refused to use them again for rest of our stay

Local attractions

Over in Tewkesbury, begin with an amble alongside the River Severn or opt for a boat trip along the Avon; then head to the town’s most famed landmark, the 900-year-old Tewkesbury Abbey, and have yourself a heritage wander around its walking trails. The Pepperpot in Upton is also a topping option as an historic highlight, as are Hartlebury Castle and the cathedrals at Worcester and Gloucester, all within easy driving distance. The area plays host to lots of festivals and events throughout the year too; if you’re in the area in July, make sure you check out Tewkesbury’s famed Medieval Festival, where thousands from all over get together for Europe’s biggest annual medieval reenactment: let the merriment commence and the mead flow forth. Elsewhere, this top Worcestershire spot is a most handy locale for outdoorsy and active adventures: there’s a golf course in Tewkesbury and several horse riding schools are in the area too, plus walking and cycling are popular around the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a short drive away. Severn Ham is also a splendid place for a walk and a bit of wildlife watching: be sure to take a pair of binoculars or even just your camera phone, because you’ll likely want to snap all the critters and birdlife you’ll find around this wild water meadow.
