  • Dog-friendly site with access to Forest of Dean walks and cycle paths
  • A 20-minute drive from the Wye Valley National Landscape
  • Firepits for hire; small shop selling the basics, logs and kindling
Family-friendly pitches in Gloucestershire’s untamed Forest of Dean – it doesn’t get much better than that. Except it does… because at Forest of Dean Camping, guests can join miles of purpose-built cycling and hiking tracks straight from the pitches. Whether you’re after a quick walk with the dog – your four-legged companions are very welcome here – a pub crawl in local villages or a whole-day biking adventure, they’re all close by. After a day in the forest, head back to your pitch for an evening around the embers. No need to lug everything from home, as there are firepits for hire on a per-night basis, and logs and kindling are sold on the premises. The site also has a small shop selling the basics and alcohol (open 9am until 6pm at reception), so you’ll never get caught short without supplies – and if you want to pick up some eggs for breakfast, spuds or meat for the barbecue, there’s a local shop just 15 minutes’ stroll away. On a practical level, spotless amenities on site include a heated shower block with separate disabled facilities and a laundry room for taking care of chores. If you’re travelling by pedal power, there’s a secure bike room, and there’s a noticeboard at reception with local tourist information if you’re needing a bit of sightseeing inspiration.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Site well set out, spacious, lovely views.
Quiet. Cater for reasonable numbers of caravans, motor homes and tents to enable it to still feel small enough to feel private.
Facilities excellent. Perfect for a quiet stay with relative privacy. Toilets, showers all spotless and in excellent condition.
Motorhome waste facility well thought out which is rare to see.
This site had been well thought out and designed with care and is superbly maintained and all at a respectable price.
This is the nicest site I have visited and will be my first choice again when visiting the Forest of Dean area

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Such a beautiful place, lovely well groomed pitches with some parts left for wildlife

Toilets and washing up area are immaculate, the best I've ever seen

Jess, the owner, is so accommodating and lovely

Some, inconsiderate, dog owners felt the 'dogs on leads at all times ' didn't apply to them. Jess was very quick to let them know it applied to everyone

Will definitely be coming back here

Disliked: Not the owners fault, but inconsiderate dog owners with dogs off their leads

BE MORE CONSIDERATE IF STAYING HERE WITH DOGS, we don't all love your dogs like you do!!

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: What a beautiful and well kept small site!

We had a lovely large pitch with electric, clear boundaries and although very slightly sloped, the ground was very even. Plenty of space for our tent, side awning, car and for our 6 year old to play without disturbing others.

Water, washing up and toilet/shower facilities were always spotless and cleaned often. There are 3 showers in each block, which is perfect for the size of site and I never had to queue to use them or the toilets. There is also an accessible toilet/shower room too. The site was at capacity for our entire stay, but as a small site it never felt crowded.

Jess is the most attentive owner I’ve ever come across! Friendly, happy to help and always available. We had a slight issue with our electric and she was straight out with a solution. She runs reception and a small shop which has everything you may need food/drink wise and also some emergency supplies for us campers!

Plenty of information on the board outside the toilet for takeaways, restaurants, places to visit, local walks etc and Jess also has flyers for the most popular attractions in reception.

We hired a fire pit, which for £12 per night with wood and kindling is really well priced. My daughter loved having smores every night!

Would most definitely stay again!

Local attractions

Sporty souls can get out into the breathtaking Wye Valley National Landscape (20 minutes’ drive) for days of canoeing, paddleboarding or cycling along the River Wye. There’s also challenging climbing at Symonds Yat (half an hour), while gorge climbing or abseiling are on hand for adrenaline junkies. More sedate local pursuits include a steam-train ride aboard the Dean Forest Railway (10 minutes), which also offers lots of family-friendly attractions like murder mystery evenings. For outdoor fun in enchanting, moss-covered forest, the walking routes at Puzzlewood (also 10 minutes) are suitable for kids, and you can all learn about local history in the reconstructed cottages and museum at the Dean Heritage Centre (15 minutes). The spectacular remains of Cistercian Tintern Abbey (half an hour) have a gorgeous setting by the River Wye. Goodrich Castle (25 minutes) is another stunning spot where you can clamber up Norman-era towers, brave the dungeons and see relics of exquisite stained-glass windows in its half-ruined chapel.
