  • Next to the source of the Thames and start/end of Thames Path
If you’re walking the Thames Path, you’ll certainly want to consider staying here – Thames Head Wharf is right by the start point (or end point, if you’re going the other way) of the path, making it a particularly good choice for your first (or last) night on the trail. And if you're not walking the Thames Path… well, you may also like to consider staying here, because this tiny Gloucestershire site is well positioned for getting out to explore the Cotswolds National Landscape. It’s easily accessed from the A483 and within easy reach of several great walking trails (including the Wysis Way and Cotswold Way as well as the Thames Path) and attractions – especially, of course, the source of the River Thames about 50 metres away (the spring appears from around October to April). This is a peaceful spot indeed, with just a couple of pitches in a sheltered garden area within the grounds of a historic canal cottage dating from 1784. The grass pitching area is flanked by a sun terrace with picnic tables, seating and parasols, plus pots full of colourful blooms. It all adds up to a place that's cosy, quiet and pretty – and with some great stargazing on clear nights too. Shared facilities here include a toilet and wash basin, a fridge, charging facilities (for phones and torches) and access to drinking water. You’ll also have access to a barbecue (pick up charcoal and other supplies in Cirencester, 10 minutes' drive away) and tea/coffee-making facilities for your morning cuppa. Not in the mood for cooking? There are two pubs within walking distance (the closer being 10 minutes away).

Liked Lovely picturesque venue for small tent. Also lovely decking area elevated for sitting/viewing. Chris the host was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area, would definitely stay again if in the area.
