  • Spacious family-owned site in the Cotswolds
  • Five minutes' drive from Cirencester and 25 from Cheltenham
  • A 15-minute drive from Bibury and the start of the Thames Path
A getaway full of fab scenery, peaceful wanders and historical streetscapes… and bringing the dog along for the journey? It’s a cinch at Mayfield Park, a family-friendly and family-owned Gloucestershire site five minutes’ drive from the market town of Cirencester and the pretty village of Bibury. This is a top spot to use as a base for explores of the spectacular Cotswolds. Overlooking the Churn valley, the site has easy access to plenty of local walks and scenic villages – just ask in reception for recommendations – and the long-distance Thames Path (so long it’ll take ramblers all the way to London) starts about 15 minutes’ drive away for lengthy treks. Exploring without needing to use feet or pedals is simple round here too: the bus route for Cirencester and Cheltenham passes the site and there’s a stop about 100 feet from the entrance; otherwise pile everyone into the car for the five-minute ride to Cirencester or the 25-minute canter to Cheltenham. Be sure to head back to the site in time to catch the sun setting over the fields, then settle in for an evening of barbecues as canine pals stretch out in the grass. Want a break from cooking? Sniff out one of the local pubs serving local eats to get a taste of Gloucestershire.

Powered grass campsite (sloping)

Liked Well kept quiet park in a great spot for exploring the nearby Cotswold towns and city of Cirencester.

Service was warm and welcoming upon arrival with thorough instructions and advice given for your stay.

Disliked Whilst all necessary amenities are present and kept immaculately, it would have been nice to have had another amenity block in the upper half of the site.

The electric pitch that we were given was in a wide open space with no shelter or privacy.

No WiFi over the site, but that's not a massive issue.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Gepflegte Anlage.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked We visited for the first time over the weekend and honestly had an amazing experience. We learned plenty along the way, especially not to forget the electric hook up. Thankfully, the staff were incredibly helpful and provided us with a spare, which completely took the stress out of the situation.

The pitches are a great size and the facilities were spotless, with only a short walk from the top field. The whole site had a really relaxed atmosphere and every member of staff was friendly, welcoming and approachable. We also loved the information hut and found the local area information really useful.

We enjoyed our stay so much that we’ve already booked to return during the summer holidays.

Disliked That we had to go home.

Powered grass campsite (sloping)

Liked Cleanliness of site and toilet block. Good location. Nice wash up area and laundry room. Well maintained grounds. Nice information cabin with plenty of walking information and with fridge and freezer at no extra cost.

Disliked Not really a dislike but can be a bit of trek to the toilet, especially if you are at the top of the field. We were in the rally field so wasn't too bad (have been further away from toilets at different campsites) was told at reception they are hoping to get planning permission to build at the top of the field. Also they only have one electric box with five connections. We were pitch 5 and our electric cable was at its limit, pitches 1-4 were ok, so may be an extra electric box for hook up would be good. Other than that a good campsite. You do here noise from the A road but nothing to worry about. Would return again

Liked Staff at check in was very helpful and friendly taking her time to give us helpful information About walks and busses.

Disliked Being opposite a row that felt like
Residential pitches always feels like an invasion of privacy. The constant noise from the main road. Although we did manage to level up turning to face the other way the pitches were very slanted

Local attractions

With Cheltenham racecourse a mere 30 minutes’ drive away, this site is a prime pick for horsey types – but if the gee-gees don’t have the family galloping for joy, there are other four-legged, fleet and feathered options at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, also half an hour from base. If the Cotswold Gardens grow enthusiasm for stately houses and grand designs, there’s plenty else hereabouts to entice: Chavenage House, Berkeley Castle, Bowood House, Sudeley Castle, Newark Park and Dyrham Park are all within an hour for old piles, and Westonbirt Arboretum and the gardens at Highgrove (Charlie and Camilla’s royal digs) are definitely worth a turn half an hour away. For more urban explores, start 15 minutes from the site in the scenic village of Bibury to have a poke around the Chedworth Roman Villa, travel on to Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes) for Birdland, a maze, a motoring museum and a model village, then take things up a notch in Cirencester, where there are Roman remains, museums, markets, parks and a manor house all waiting for visitors. Keep things soothingly low-key with a spin on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway, 25 minutes away, or get a bit more active with watersports, paintball, fishing and horse riding at Cotswold Water Park or an adrenaline-fuelled day at the Gloucestershire Rally School, both within 20 minutes.
