Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: Everything ! This site is the kind of place you don’t want to leave a review for on case that means it is always booked up when you would like to return . We stayed for 7 days and the extra features of the toilet , outside washing up and the storage shed with a kettle meant that we could of happily stayed for a month . As we are in a motor home we have all those facilities on board but being able to have the extra space just felt like a luxury and totally extended our living space . The owner Vince was lovely and available if we needed anything and made us feel very welcome leaving fresh eggs from his chickens for us to enjoy . Even though the pitch is tucked behind the house and garden you don’t feel like you are intruding on someone’s living space. There is access to amazing walks in every direction from the pitch . We will definitely be back again.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: Absolutely loved this pitch, well thought out, everything that you would think you’d need was well thought out & available, but not many come with a patio/xmas tree and a chill out shed

Disliked: The fact that due to traffic we arrived late and didn’t get to enjoy sitting outside, will re-book soon though

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: Good location to visit family. Stayed 2 nights both quiet. Managed to fit 7.5m motorhome comfortably. Access to facilities a bonus. The location is tucked out of the way and exclusive for one vehicle. The price ratio is acceptable for the location, but any higher then we would use a campsite. No need for a shower etc at the Pitchup. We had no issues with mobile signal EE and Vodafone. Thank you for the fresh eggs 😋 See you on our next trip.

Disliked: Many, some large, potholes on approach road/track to Pitchup. Grey waste pipe needs extending for larger vehicles.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to review! We're glad you enjoyed your stay and were lucky enough to sample some of our hens eggs. See you again sometime. 🙂

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: The camp spot was very secluded with all the amenities we needed. Even a kettle which was very handy meaning we didn’t need to get our stove going! There was space to store things under cover and the site was lovely and clean and tidy. Vince the owner was very helpful and happy to help with any questions we had.

From the manager: Hey Alice! Great to hear you guys liked the spot and found it practical for your stay. Nice to hear also the storage area came in useful. Fair play for braving the cold weather.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: Very warm welcome, ideal location, very clean & well maintained facilities Well thought out layout, quiet spot, lovely views Dry room for storage, kettle & washing up area, rubbish & recycling Motorhome friendly with both grey waste & toilet cassette disposal available Thoughtful touches such as sensor lights around the pitch & in toilet after dark Lovely extra lighting along the fence Very reasonable charges for pitch & electric - he even provided the hook up cable! Fresh eggs on site were an added bonus! Thanks Vince, we had a great stay :)

Disliked: Nothing!

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: This is a Wonderful site with a lovely host. This is a lovely spot to stay.. you hear the stream behind the wall and the facilities are simple but perfect. There is a loo and sink with tap and even a garage with power for your use when staying at the site. The site backs onto the forest and the cycle centre is just 5 minutes down the road. The host Vince is very welcoming and can’t do enough to make your stay enjoyable. Vince even put a kettle in the garage room so that I don’t have to use my gas supply to make coffee. You can’t really see or hear the main house but I think the fact that it is close-by will be reassuring to solo travellers.

Disliked: Would love Vince to add a shower facility which I think might be planned. The cycle centre down the road has a shower for those travelling without shower facilities on board. Would like free wifi (I’m SO demanding lol) but you get a great 5G signal anyway.

From the manager: Great to have you stay Richard! Glad you appreciated what the site had to offer and enjoyed your stay. Shower and WiFi are on the 2024 to do list. See you again in the Summer 🌞

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: Only one pitch. Behind the owners bungalow and overlooking the forest. Owner said deer and wild boar have been seen. Well laid out facilities. Toilet but no shower. Didn’t bother us as have own shower. Great walks around and lovely friendly owner Vince

Disliked: No Wi-Fi and late check in at 4pm! Not sure why but owner allowed us to come earlier but must put people off as day is gone.

From the manager: Hi Elaine! Glad you guys enjoyed the views and and the local walks. You'll be pleased to know we've shifted the check-in forward to 1pm hopefully making it more practical for future visits. Wi-fi is on the 2024 to do list 😉

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: Very welcoming host - sent a text on the day I was arriving advising where everything was so I was able to locate everything easily on arrival. Lovely and friendly host Location - right on the doorstep of the Forest so able to walk and not rely on driving Facilities- basic, clean and adequate for short stays. View - excellent views of the Forest and countryside on pitch It was one pitch only on site which meant I had the facilities to myself and also very close to owner's home which was reassuring as a lone traveller Very good value for money!

Disliked: Nothing to dislike- perfect site for overnight and weekend stays

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: So pleased we ticked the box for your short break requirements and that you enjoyed your stay. Always great to see a bongo camper...had a few over the years myself. Come see us again when it's less cold.

Local attractions

If you’re happy to explore the local area on foot, access the Wysis Way direct from your pitch for explorations of the Forest of Dean or longer tramps to the Severn Vale. Another local walk leads through Edgehills Nature Reserve (40 minutes’ walk) to St Antony’s Well (90 minutes), where you can cool off with a dip in a spring that’s thought to date from medieval times. Slightly further afield, outdoor adventures might take you to the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (10 minutes’ drive) for kayaking trips down the River Wye, or challenging cycling trails that lead to the landmark Symonds Yat Rock (two hours and 40 minutes by bike from your pitch). Looking for days out with the kids? Discover the wacky installations along the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail (10 minutes’ drive), or the moss-covered rocks and trees lining walkways at the mysterious Puzzlewood (15 minutes), where there’s also a small farm with donkeys to cuddle. When more high-octane activity is needed, involve the whole family in an active day on treetop rope courses and zipwires at Go Ape Mallards Pike (also 15 minutes).
