  • Peaceful tourer paddock 20 minutes’ walk from Bourton-on-the-Water
  • Hawkstone Brewery five minutes’ walk; Lower Slaughter 10 minutes
  • Simple site at an equestrian centre; two pubs within 10 minutes’ walk
Looking for somewhere peaceful to lay your head in the Cotswolds? You may just have found the right spot at College Farm, 10 minutes’ drive from Stow-on-the-Wold in Gloucestershire. Set adjacent to a footpath running between the well-known and ridiculously pretty Cotswolds villages of Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes’ walk) and Lower Slaughter (10 minutes), this peaceful, no-frills camping field has just a few pitches for tourers. The site is at an equestrian centre, and there are horses grazing in neighbouring paddocks. There are slightly more controversial neighbours at Hawkstone Brewery (five minutes), part-owned by Jeremy Clarkson of ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ fame; should you still be thirsty after a visit to the taproom there, two traditional Cotswolds pubs are also within 10 minutes’ walk of your pitch. There is no electricity on the pitches and limited facilities stretch as far as drinking water, a rubbish bin and black waste disposal (the latter is found at the stables), so the site is only suitable for self-contained motorhomes and campervans.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Lovely little field with horses to one side, and a footpath to the other, which takes you to the Slaughters (well worth visiting, as they're beautiful villages).
The field is a few minutes walk to the Hawkstone Brewery, and an easy walk into Bourton-on-the-Water.
We would definitely come here again if/when we are in the area!

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Simple site (bin and tap with black waste disposal only) with lovely views of fields with horses
Great proximity to Bourton-On-The-Water and the Slaughters with an easy access footpath
Next door to the Hawkstone brewery but not too close!
Good communication from owner

Disliked Be aware that the local villages get extremely busy in high season so visit early or later in the day to avoid the main crowds

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked A great location with access straight on to bridleways, footpaths, and the Hawkstone brewery. Bourton town is about 15 minutes walk, and it’s about 10 minutes walk to the bus stop with an hourly service to Cheltenham, Stow and Moreton.
Easy access and I found the booking process and information to be spot on. Pitch was level and ground was dry, plus securely fenced so dog safe too.

Disliked Not a dislike, but grey water emptying would be a plus if there were any future plans to grow the camping side of the business

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked This is a brilliant little site next to Bourton on the water.
The slaughters are in easy walking distance.
Hawkshead brewery is a couple of fields over so you can't hear it but the night I visited they had street food, a bar, and a singer.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Location was brilliant and walkable to Bourton on Water and Upper and Lower slaughters.

Disliked Not a dislike as such and may not be as noticeable in a Motorhome, (we were in a roof top tent) but traffic from the main busy road very noticeable but not overly intrusive.

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review- so glad you enjoyed your stay 😊

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Basic paddock for a self-contained unit. Handy for overnight stop to break-up journey home. Relatively flat but still need a little help from the blocks. Very close, just 5-10 mins to Hawkstone Brewery (Jeremy Clarkson co-owned), lovely place.

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay 😊🌞

Local attractions

First stop might be Hawkstone Brewery (five minutes’ walk) to tour the production process and sample some of the produce, but Jeremy Clarkson’s not the only famous near-neighbour. Just 10 minutes’ drive down the road is Cotswold Farm Park, the domain of Adam Henson from ‘Countryfile’; here you can get up close with rare-breed cattle and horses, and feed cuddly lambs in spring. Mellow-stone Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes’ walk) is as cute as a Cotswold village could be, and it’s packed with things for families to do. You can tour Bourton in miniature at The Model Village, admire vintage racing cars at the Cotswold Motoring Museum and Toy Collection, and be entertained by penguins, pink flamingos and chirpy macaws at Birdland Park and Gardens. There are more animals to see at Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens (half an hour’s drive), where you can view rhinos, zebras and giraffes from the safety of a mini-train. At Crocodiles of the World (25 minutes), the kids can get involved in encounters of the hands-on type with reptiles, keeper talks and feeding sessions.
