  • Simple site in the middle of the Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Bakewell, Castleton and Blue John Cavern
  • Scenic dog-friendly site with village pub five minutes' walk
When it comes to stays in the Peak District National Park, sometimes all you need is a simple and peaceful place to lay your head for the night, with basic facilities but very little to distract you from the gorgeous views all around. (Oh, and maybe a pub within walking distance…). If that's the sort of thing you seek, you’ll likely be most happy with your lot at South View Farm Camping. This is wild-ish camping (in that it’s got a toilet block and running water), spread over roughly four acres and on a very slight incline. As well as having fabulous views over to Bradwell Edge, there’s a gliding club close by, so you may spot some folk taking to the air. As befits a wild-style site, there's a laidback atmosphere in which you'll be allowed to bring a barbecue or light up a campfire, and dogs are welcome as long as they're kept under control and on a lead. There's a sink on site for topping up your drinking water, as well as washing-up sinks and rubbish bins. And that pub? It’s a mere five-minute walk along a footpath to the village of Little Hucklow and a pint of something local in the garden or by the fire (and a meal too, if you like). For more eating options, the local villages of Bradwell and Tideswell are about five minutes' drive away and have pubs, shops and takeaways. Working up an appetite for your dinner should be straightforward here, as you’ll be pretty much right in the centre of the national park with easy access to all the top hikes, activities and attractions.

What customers say

Fantastic Peak District scenery & a chill vibe for a "back to basics" getaway. Host Jade gets rave reviews for being super friendly. Portaloos & wash stations are spotless. Lots of space to pick your spot. Pub's a nice walk away. Some fields are a bit sloped but manageable. Great spot & host!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely campsite, really friendly owners, fantastic gastro pub two minutes down the field. A really quiet, chilled out, small site which is well positioned to get out and about into Derbyshire.

Disliked Being hypercritical, a few hooks in the bathroom cubicles - which the owners make obvious efforts to keep clean - would be welcome and another washing up area, ideally with hot water (but I appreciate that's not really what this site is about) would also be a handy addition.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Really nice scenic views, quiet, plenty of space, nice flat pitches, dog friendly, clean and fresh facilities, good communication before arrival, friendly staff on hand to help during stay.

Normally allows raised campfires/BBQs I think (obviously not during drought due to fire risk).

We didn't need anything, but did also see a little honesty box with snacks/essentials in.

Not sure if there's any WiFi available, as didn't check. We got good reception from all over the site.

Disliked Nothing! Would be nice if in future they continue to add to the site and get some hot water/shower facilities, but it's very clear from the booking information that these aren't available currently, so no surprises there.

Local attractions

Where to walk first? The Peak District National Park has so many options you might find it tricky to choose – but a few local favourites include Monsal Dale (10 minutes’ drive), the Hope Valley (15 minutes) and Bamford Edge (15 minutes). Just a little further away (20 minutes) are the lovely landscapes of Mam Tor and the National Trust-owned Padley Gorge. The scenic views continue underground, too, and you’ll be well placed to see some of them as it’s only a 15-minute drive to Castleton, known for its four show caves. Take a boat tour at Speedwell Cavern, see the illuminated caves of Blue John Cavern or Treak Cliff Cavern or visit the only completely natural cave of the four at Peak Cavern. Back up at ground level, it’s worth visiting both the pudding hotspot of Bakewell (15 minutes) and the smart spa town of Buxton (20 minutes), and planning a full day at Chatsworth (20 minutes), which has a farmyard, playground and gardens as well as tours of the ornate mansion.
