  • Family-run campsite in a scenic Peak District location
  • Bakewell 15 minutes' drive; Chatsworth 20 minutes
  • Separate adults-only and family-friendly camping fields in White Peak
Burrow down surrounded by typical Derbyshire farmland at Knotlow Farm, a friendly family-run farm campsite in the scenic White Peak area of the Peak District National Park. That’s your first step… and the second? Perhaps renting a bicycle from Parsley Hay, 10 minutes’ drive away, to pedal out over Peak District landscapes, or maybe whisking your four-legged friends off on an outdoor adventure – after all, they’re welcome here too. This rural break is a top choice for a variety of travellers because of its separate adults-only and family-friendly pitching areas. The site has a washing-up area, toilets and hot showers (plus a family bathroom with changing area) too, making it easy to refresh yourself at the end of a long day trekking through the local countryside or exploring some of the area's top tourist attractions… There are many of those nearby, by the way. Set just outside the small hamlet of Flagg, Knotlow Farm is a quarter of an hour's drive from market towns like Bakewell and 20 minutes’ drive from Derbyshire must-sees like Chatsworth House. There is also a small on-site shop to bag essential groceries and sweets, but if you're not in the mood for cooking, grab one of the site’s home-made pizzas every evening. There are breakfasts available every morning and fire baskets can also be hired too (with logs for sale), just in case you're after that extra little bit of evening ambience…

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (family)

Liked Great location for exploring the area and for such a great price, I was surprised this site wasn't much busier. Had a selection of fields to choose from. Good shower, needs 20p pieces
Nice area for washing up, freezer for ice blocks, coffee and vending machine of needed and supplies in reception. Good shower block.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (family)

Liked It all depends on what you’re looking for when you camp. Some people rate wilderness, some rate facilities.
For me:

You can do pleasant walk to Monyash with do epic steak sarnies and nice atmosphere.
Lots of fields on site -do have options to be ‘remote’ rather than everyone on one field.
If you want it- there’s pizzas, a shop, whole toilet and shower block.
Friendly staff.

Looks like a great family young kids friendly site

Disliked Again for me personally- it felt more commercial, mapped out fields, quite busy.

Long walk to the toilet block.
If you’re after wild camp feel, not for me personally

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (family)

Liked Site was very peaceful, showers and pot wash sinks were nice and hot/clean, friendly staff.

Disliked There are plenty of spaces that are level but some pitches are on an incline. The toilet block wasn’t too far for us personally but may have been to those at the other end of the site. Wasps were ok for us as adults but may have been a bit of a pain for younger children (probably seasonal but we had a wasp trap which helped distract them!)

Local attractions

Those of you who want to glide past the sloping Peak District countryside can get started on the Tissington Trail (10 minutes’ drive). The old railway track is suited to wheels or walking boats, and the historic setting will get you ready for more historical sites… Those include Chatsworth House (20 minutes) and its peaceful grounds, excellent for a picnic and a walk, and the Nine Ladies stone circle (20 minutes). Legend has it each stone was once a lady punished for dancing on a Sunday. You may soon be dancing yourself - even on a Sunday - after a tour of Buxton (15 minutes) or Bakewell (15 minutes). Both characterful Peak District towns are packed with pubs, restaurants and cafés, and of course, in Bakewell, the speciality is Bakewell tarts. Down Chatsworth House way is Chesterfield (35 minutes) too – a destination for all things theatre, golfing and gourmet eats – but further on, it’s easy enough to get to Alton Towers (45 minutes) for a thrills-geared day.
