General
- Adults-only site on a scenic smallholding in the Peak District
- A mile from Hartington and 20 minutes’ drive from Buxton and Bakewell
- Dog-friendly walks right from the park on ancient routes and trackways
If you’re after a blissful base in the Peak District, Chapel Farm Caravan Park – set on a smallholding with first-rate views over the surrounding countryside – might just be your kind of place.
But before you click book and start packing the kids and smart devices, it’s to be noted that this Derbyshire destination has two key USPs to make it even more of a restful respite: an adults-only policy and limited mobile phone signal…
This is a place to digitally detox among the lush greenery or ask the dog if they want to go walkies – four-legged friends are permitted at the park as long as they’re well-behaved and kept on a lead. Set off on trails from the grounds through ancient routes and trackways, past old stone cottages and buildings like the early 17th-century Hartington Hall (a mile) and Charles Cotton Hotel (a mile and a half).
People-pleasing Peak District paths are also close by – dawdle over to Beresford Dale, leading to Wovescote Dale and the famed Dovedale limestone valley stepping stones (25 minutes’ drive), then head to Upper Dove valley on quieter trails enroute to the Norman-era Pilsbury Castle and Crowdecote village (15 minutes).
Prefer to potter with a bit more purpose? Venture to the villages of Hartington and Biggin (both less than a mile and a half) to run errands at the local shops or, better yet, to pull up a pew at one of the pubs.
This site is fully committed to getting visitors back to basics, so it has no showers or toilets, but a chemical disposal point is available.

Local attractions
Chapel Farm’s in the south of the Peak District National Park, an area known for its limestone scenery as well as spa towns like Buxton (20 minutes’ drive). Referred to as the most complete Regency town in the UK, this Georgian-era settlement is worth a look for an amble around the shops of the Cavendish Arcade set inside the original thermal baths.
Just outside town, pootle towards the limestone Poole’s Cavern or go further to Castleton (40 minutes) in the High Peak for four show caves, including Blue John Cavern where the semi-precious Blue John mineral is mined.
Have a gander at other eye-catching attractions in the area too on trips to stately homes such as Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, both half an hour from the site, or drive the 20 minutes to Bakewell and feast your eyes on the lovely River Wye setting while sating your stomach with a Bakewell pudding.
