Reading, Berkshire, England
Unpowered grass and earth caravan site
Liked A lovely warm welcome at this truly back to basics site. Within stones throw of the M4 (but remote enough for no road noise) makes it easily accessible from London and other major towns in the area. Roof tents welcome
Beautiful field views, saw deer and rabbits. Really peaceful and relaxed vibe.
Pitches spaced out so feel you have a lot of privacy.
Facilities block and a couple of portaloos were basic but clean.
Please note they prefer vehicles on the hard standing. I was fortunate because it was quiet that I could get on the grass with my roof tent. Thanks for this.
Lovely staff and a friendly black lab!
Great mobile coverage on O2.
Disliked Hardstanding area could do with improvement if they are asking people to base themselves on it. It’s quite uneven, campervans etc would need levellers.
Perhaps better suited to tent campers because of this.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review. We take your point about the hardstanding and will endeavour to make improvements as the weather picks up. It was something of an emergency measure as the weather has been so challenging this year. Our intention is to allow tourers onto the field once it’s fully dry. We look forward to seeing you again soon, as does Digger the dog!
North Chailey, East Sussex, England
Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site
Liked Spacious well kept pitches, with stunning views of the East Sussex countryside. Convenient for Eastbourne/Lewes. Facilities basic but clean. Roof tent friendly.
Alpacas and sheep in the next field gave it a very rural feel.
When I visited they served pizza, which was bought to the pitch and delicious. They also served breakfast but I’d bought my own (but it appeared to go down very well!)

Unpowered grass tent site
Liked Spacious site across several fields. Beautiful views and sunshine throughout the day. Even though there were quite a few tents on site it still felt spacious. Friendly welcome from the staff. Basic facilities as expected but the staff worked hard to keep them clean and tidy. Lovely walk to the beautiful village of West Hoathly
Disliked Pitches can be quite sloped so arrive early if possible.

Shaftesbury, Dorset, England
Unpowered grass tent site (premium)
Liked I booked this site as a stop over on the way home from Devon. Oh how I wish I could have stayed longer. It’s a beautiful, peaceful haven set in the most stunning Dorset countryside. Facilities are basic but were kept spotlessly clean. Pitch sizes were good and social distancing can easily be maintained. I loved how you could walk through to the next field for a wonderful view of the sunset.
Thank you Sarah and Alex (owners) for making me feel so welcome. I hope to visit again soon x

Crowborough, East Sussex, England
Unpowered grass site
Liked Despite a rather wet weekend, I thoroughly enjoyed my short stay at Idle Hours. The facilities were sparkling clean. The pitches were a great size with stunning views of the sunset. It’s was so blissful to wake up to the sound of farm animals after life in lockdown. The welcome from Julie and Paul was lovely, and very reassuring as a solo female camper. I look forward to returning already.
A beautiful escape. Thank you.
