The Old Cow Shed was a…

Aug 2025

Liked The Old Cow Shed was a great find. We went as a family of 3 plus dog. The interior was well thought out and a high standard, you could tell a lot of hard work and love had gone into it. The little private side area with a gate was a plus, a great little sun trap and the BBQ was a nice touch. The private bathroom, whilst not in the property itself was not a problem at all and plenty of towels were provided. Water is not drinking water but bottled water was provided, we just topped up when it ran out. There isn't hot water so be prepared to boil the kettle so you can wash up. There is now a toaster as well as microwave, kettle and air fryer. We didn't use the air fryer as probably the only people who don't have one or know how to use one 🤣 we cooked on the BBQ. Even the dog is thought of with bowls, poo bags and treats. The pigs and the chickens are little characters, beware if you leave your window or door open, they are very friendly and may just join you 😉 great fun for kids. Paul was very friendly and helpful, told us where there were nice walks...thanks for the Loggerheads recommendation! One suggestion would be to give a What Three Words for the directions as the postcode only gets you to the village but you then have a drive up a stone track to the farm which isn't very clear

Disliked Nothing. We loved it and would stay again

Nice setting but not peaceful

Aug 2020

Liked The woodland setting was great and pitches were well maintained. Contactless Check-in details sent prior to arrival were very clear. Plenty of shops nearby for buying supplies.

Disliked This is our second camping trip this year. Compared to the previous site we stayed on, this site was not as relaxing a peaceful. Although it is advertised that from 11pm it is quiet time, each night the noise went on much later. The first night a bunch of young campers were singing and shouting until 3am, the second night there were kids still running around, screaming & on the play area at midnight. Also, although it has the nice woodland setting, it is also quite urban with a train track close by with trains running through the night, planes taking off from the nearby airport in the night & a fairly busy road not too far away. I also felt that given the current Covid situation the cleanliness wasn't up to scratch, however I also appreciate that fellow campers also have a role to play here! The washrooms were only cleaned once a day after the majority have washed & showered, by bed time, the bins were overflowing with paper towels, towel dispensers were empty & at least one or two toilets were blocked. The showers were also flooded & not mopped.... Again, this is down to campers also doing their bit & thinking of others. The previous site we stayed on had anti bac sprays & paper towel rolls at each sink asking guests to spray down the sinks and taps before and after use. The pot wash sinks didn't have any plugs & one sink the hot tap wasn't working. The freezer for ice packs was full of frozen food so not much space for putting your ice packs in. This site was nowhere near full capacity & can't imagine what it would be like if it was. Overall, the site felt like guests were left to their own devices as we never saw any site owners/employees around the site apart from the cleaners & noise was definitely not policed

Peaceful & friendly site in a beautiful setting

July 2020

Liked What a lovely site, perfect for a short stay. Jo was lovely and worked very hard making sure that all her guests on the site were happy. The pitches were well spread out giving us plenty of room & covid precautions were excellent. If you are a keen walker it is perfect as there are plenty of walks around the site. We did the lake walk which was great if you want a shortish/family walk (4 miles). As it's a circular I would recommend doing the lane part first so you finish your walk with the most scenic part. If you like wildlife photography you can capture some great pics from the site of the local barn owls who seem to be happy to pose for you. If you want luxury toilet facilities then it probably wouldn't be for you, but then it's not advertised as that and we found it perfectly fine for a couple of days stay. The firepits are a great addition and were well used by most campers. Logs, kindling & firelighters can all be bought on site. Altogether, we had a fab stay and would definitely return.
