Wallingford, Oxfordshire, England
Unpowered grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent site
Liked Beautiful, rustic campsite just outside of Wallingford - ideally located for Wallingford, the Ridgeway and exploring local villages. Would highly recommend King William IV in nearby village Hailey for food and drinks. Campsite was extremely easy to find and convenient check-in via text means your arrival time doesn't need to be really fixed. Standard check-out time of 10am is quite early, but we paid a little extra to have a later check out of 3pm. Super dog friendly with instant access to the Ridgeway and fields for walking dogs off lead. No fixed pitches means you can choose where you want to set up on arrival. Plenty of toilets, plus a small number of cold water showers. Perfect if you like back to basics camping!
Disliked No staff on site at any point meant it was very easy for other campers to consistently flout the rules - it clearly states upon booking and also with signage around the campsite that no amplified music is allowed and that dogs should be kept on leads at all times. Unfortunately several campers didn't comply with the rules - I was particularly disappointed that I nearly stepped in dog poo behind my tent one morning from where the campers on the pitch next to ours were allowing their dog to wander around off lead and didn't pick up after it. I would have given this campsite a much higher rating if staff had conducted occasional spot checks of the site. The portaloos were generally relatively clean, but none of them had the hand sanitiser dispensers topped up the entire weekend which was a bit gross. Also it's worth noting (although this is not the campsite owners fault) that there's absolutely no shade at this campsite due to it being an exposed open field, when we were there it was during the UK heatwave so be sure to bring an awning/parasol if you require shade!

Weymouth, Dorset, England
Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site
Liked Beautiful, quiet campsite in a rural area, but close to Weymouth and other coastal towns. Fantastic pub a few minutes drive away (or 20 mins walk if you're so inclined), The Smuggler's Arms. Campsite was well kept, with clean toilets and showers. Facilities are basic, but I don't mind that! Plenty of space, never felt crowded, incredible views from the campsite. Fire pits available to hire which is a nice touch. Super flexible on arrival and departure times, great if you get stuck in traffic like we did.
Disliked Only minor thing is that it would be good if the washing up area was undercover for protection from the elements, weather was pretty bad the second day we were there and getting soaked while washing up wasn't very fun! Otherwise no negatives at all!
