Liked The views were spectacular, the site is huge with no formal pitches. You choose your own spot to pitch up. Two showers one was hot and unfortunately on our visit the other was cold, extremely refreshing during the very hot weekend. The walk or cycle in to shaftesbury is short and easy if using the bridle path, the road is fairly steep. Jason was very friendly and ensured the facilities were always clean and stocked up.
Disliked The toilet block is a little tired and there is only one toilet for men, 3 urinals and 1 sink for washing.
The peacock alarm clock waking us up at 4 am both days 😄👍

Liked The staff and welcome is always great at this site. The lake is great for a little paddle boarding or swim. The closeness to the local pub with good ales and fantastic staff. You even have a small farm shop a couple of miles up the road for a few supplies Tesco will do a delivery to the site.
The on site cafes bacon rolls. A lakeside sauna is being installed.
Disliked Since last year the showers have had a power supply change to solar. Unfortunately this means unless you have a shower midday you will have a cold shower. I tried early and late but it was always cold, and I mean cold. The toilets near the lake don’t have lights in them if you need to visit them in the middle of the night. They are extremely dark so you need to have a torch to see what you are doing.

Liked The lake, the views the facilities.
Disliked The time on the showers.
The apparent lack of control in pitch control. Staff not ensuring you get what you have paid for. Great view and lake, but!
We booked a weekend here with an electric hook up. Unfortunately we were unable to get the allocated pitch on the first night and weren't given an electric hook up as anither camper was in the wrong location blocking 2 pitches. The staff put us on a hardstanding for the night without electrics even though we had paid for it. They seemed reluctant to move the other motor home. A couple more campers on site had similar problems with the pitch allocation.
I beleive the additional charge for accessing the lake for campers is a little expensive. This should be either included in the camping price or reduced by 50%

Liked The cafe on site which was good value and nicely prepared. The well stocked shop. The clean modern showers and toilet blocks.
Disliked The state the toilets were left in by some of the users.
The lack of site pitch control. On arrival you get taken to the field to locate a vacant pitch as the office doesn’t know what pitches are free. This is problematic as If you leave the site you are likely to find someone else on the pitch on your return. You have to leave kit on the pitch to prove someone is using the pitch to signify that the pitch is in use when the office staff drive around on the buggy to give a pitch. The office doesn’t record which pitches are in use so no information is given to the night security team. This allows the night team to allocate a used pitch to someone else, so no pitch for you on your return from a night out. This would appear to show the campsite is set up for caravans who obviously leave a large item on the pitch.Dog mess around the site not being cleared up. Double standards with application of rules. One caravan camper being told they could not leave the towing van on site as it was a sign written work van and they would be evicted if the parked on site, when there was a sign written work van next to this pitch. Apparently this camper had a season pitch so were allowed to have a sign written van on the pitch.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We always appreciate the feedback. I would like to respond to a few of your comments. On arrival, we guide you to our pitches, so if you have a particular request, we can try to allocate you a suitable pitch. We are aware of the pitches we have available. However, we choose not to preallocate pitches as customers usually appreciate being able to choose their pitches. It is common practice to leave a small sign or an item on the pitch to indicate that you have taken your motorhome away for the day but are planning to return to the same pitch. Otherwise, no one knows that the pitch has been taken. We are very clear with our site rules, and these apply equally to all our guests on sites. There are no double standards.

Liked I everything! The staff couldn’t do enough to make sure we had a great stay. The food hut was great and a blessing at times.
Disliked The short time on the shower needing to constantly press the button

From the manager: Many thanks for your lovely review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and found the food hut handy. We are sorry that you did not like the length of time that the shower runs once the button is pressed. Unfortunately we have no control over this as it is preset at the time of building and we are unable to override it. We hope to meet you again in the future. Jayne and Mike

Liked The location, the toilets and showers were clean and and nice and hot. No timers to worry about either. The owners were so helpful and helped when we had a flat battery.
Disliked unfortunately the weather, as we had possibly the worst thunder and lightening storm of the year.
This was nothing to do with the camp site, but the showers were great after getting cold and wet.

Liked The peaceful location and the clean facilities. The way you can get straight to your pitch on arriving. I also like the security in place making it difficult for any unregistered vehicle to get on site. Having the farm shop and cafe over the road was a great extra, offering good food. Overall excellent.

Bell tent
Liked The location, the quietnesses on the site and the way everything was made up ready for us. It had a very comfortable bed and all the equipment needed. Parking next to the tent was a bonus. Clean facilities and good hot showers
Disliked The tent had a slight smell, and overall it looked a little tired. The cream canvass tent had a slight green look to it. There was no power in the tent other than 2 led lights and 4 low power USB ports. This meant it was impossible to charge anything like a laptop. The hot water for washing up was very limited. Limited mobile signal and no WiFi available
