Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site
Liked Loved the space available around the pitches and the quietness. I noticed the generator is quieter now in the furthest field, and the shower area has been upgraded since 2024 - all very effective and smart, but still in a rustic way which I like.
No pitch is far from a water point or toilet

Unpowered grass tent site (family)
Liked Lovely rolling site with flat pitches and areas for groups, near to a river and lots of trees present for some shade.
Animals on site is nice, like ponies and goats. Friendly farm cat and dog sometimes poddled over.
Cute and rustic looking building for camping facilities near a shepherds hut.
Friendly owners
Great community pub in Hesket Newmarket just 10 mins walk. Good locally brewed real ales and food.
Lovely walks from campsite inc up onto fells, or quiet lanes for cycling were great too. Rolling terrain and pretty villages. The hike up the fells from Mungrisdale towards Blencathra is great.
Disliked 2 groups were present for the Saturday night which we were there, one of which created quite a lot of rubbish. This didn't affect us as such, but it was around the facilities and we collected much of this up as it was drifting towards the lovely river.
It felt a bit that because we were the only tent left on site for the next 3 nights it was low priority to clear the rest of this up or clean the facilities. They were OK, but didnt appear to have been cleaned (or the van facilities, as we were advised we could use too).
There is one toilet for campers, and two (in with the showers) for the vans and caravans, so may be a challenge if site full..although we didn't see the site ever full.

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site
Liked LOVED this campsite!
Peaceful, pretty site, lovely river near lots of pitches, the BEST facilities I've seen for a long time. A whole cow shed turned over to facilities of great showers (clean, great pressure, no time limit), washing machine and drier available, fridge and freezer, kettle, honesty shop for supplies and free tea coffee, and Table tennis! (Winner in my book!).
Really friendly family run this place and Fiona took the time to come and see we were OK each evening.
It was clear that this family have spent a lot of time, effort and money on setting up this campsite and it has paid off, as its just great without being too fussy👍.
The location is quiet, with empty lanes for cycling and footpaths to walk.

Unpowered grass tent site (two person)
Liked Great campsite for a pit stop up north and handy for the A74. Great facilities and good value for money. Walking around the fishing lakes was pleasant for the evening.
Good pitches
Disliked It seems like camping is a bit of an after thought here unfortunately, as no tap particularly near the camping area (although each caravan pitch obvs had there own) and no picnic bench etc. There was however amazing outdoor seating outside the centre just 25m away which we used when it was quiet, but I wouldn't feel comfy using this though if lots of caravan or generally restaurant/bar users were outside.
There grass area at the back of the centre near the facilities seemed a better place for tents perhaps.
I would definitely come again. Some minor changes may make me stay longer.
