Passing through Bulawayo and need a simple place to rest your head for a while? Take a look at Trekkers Rest Camp, a basic site in a handy location on the eastern edge of the city. Staying out here in the suburbs is a clever choice as you’ll be close to handy amenities like shops and places to eat, and you’ll also be able to reach the city centre with a drive of 20 minutes or so. Meanwhile, you’ll also be in a peaceful spot where you can enjoy a bit of fresh air and some natural scenery, and get out to the surrounding attractions easily enough – perhaps to Matobo National Park, a place that’s known for its excellent walking, wildlife spotting and photography opportunities. The site owners aim to provide a simple and affordable stopover for their guests, with just basic amenities in the form of a compost toilet and a hot outdoor shower. They’ve also installed a communal braai and firepit area, and are very happy to dole out advice on the best places to pick up groceries and other supplies nearby. With a bit of notice they can also organise things like braai packs, craft beers and things like fresh eggs or milk from local farmers.
