Pine Ridge Park Campsite

There’s super salmon fishing on site, but if you fancy casting about for different species, it’ll take you 15 minutes or so to get to Trout River State Forest (for, perhaps unsurprisingly, trout fishing) or half an hour to settle by the Saint Lawrence River to scout for smallmouth and largemouth bass, northern pike, walleye, yellow perch and bullheads. If you like to get your outdoor kicks in different ways, there are heaps of hiking and mountain bike trails around the huge Adirondack Park, along with rivers and lakes to paddle canoes or kayaks on, and some mighty scenic golf courses (the closest being Malone Golf Club, 20 minutes away). Serve up a side order of local history by taking a wander round Almanzo Wilder Farm, 20 minutes away, where there’s a museum in a restored 19th-century farmhouse along with nature trails and an orchard for kids who tire easily of anything mildly educational.
