Dreaming of a rural getaway without having to leave the reassuring embrace of civilisation? Càmping Lacus, a family-friendly site in a quiet forested area close to the centre of L’Escala on the Costa Brava in Catalonia, allows you to settle down in a scenic spot while being within easy reach of everything you might need for your hols. The site is less than five minutes’ walk from Riells beach – the largest in L’Escala – where you can have a go at windsurfing or kayaking, take out a catamaran or simply doze on the sand. When you’re feeling the need for some retail therapy, the shops are a short walk away. On site, laze under the trees or plonk yourself next to the lake for a spot of fishing. If you’d prefer to get a bit more active, but still in peace and quiet, have a game of pétanque, rack up a game of billiards or take a walk around the lake. No idle times are quite complete without a good feed, so head to the on-site restaurant for a meal, then waddle over to the bar to unwind on the terrace with a drink or two (it’s your hols – no one will judge). If you’d prefer a change of scenery, there are plenty of restaurants within an easy walk.

Great spot near the beach & town. Staff are legends! Sites are decent & shady. Shops & lake are a bonus. But facilities are a bit rough & ready, water's a bit dodgy sometimes. Could get a bit noisy with young groups, but generally chill.

Liked Der Campingplatz liegt mitten in der Stadt L’Escala – nur ca. 3 Minuten zu Fuß von der wunderschönen Strandpromenade entfernt. Die Lage ist wirklich ideal.

Leider ist der Platz selbst stark in die Jahre gekommen. Die Sanitäranlagen sehr alt, die Parzellen sind relativ klein. Mit einem größeren Wohnwagen eher nicht zu empfehlen. Der hintere Bereich des Platzes wird hauptsächlich für Jugendgruppen und Zeltlager genutzt – entsprechend kann es dort auch lauter sein.

Für eine einzelne Übernachtung war es für uns in Ordnung, aber für einen längeren Aufenthalt würden wir den Platz eher nicht wählen.

Disliked Déçu du camping en terme d'emplacements trop de proximité avec les autres campeurs pas d'entretien des emplacements.
Les sanitaires trop vétuste et l'accessibilité très compliqué avec une montée abrute
Très bruyant du aux colonies de vacances mais c'est pas vraiment ce qui nous a déranger car il faut bien que jeunesse ce fasse. Le restaurant vétuste. Le point d'eau robinet vétuste et impraticable pour les camping-car. L'évacuation boucher avec des odeurs. Le seul point positif proximité de la plage et des commerces. Le tableau électrique dans un état lamentable avec les fil électrique sans protection. Pas de Wi-Fi impossible à connecté. Nous sommes resté un jour et une nuit sans électricité avec un disjoncteur qui sauter du au normes non respecté. Et même dangereux pour les campeurs. Bref sans vouloir être trop exigeant. Ce camping en France serait fermé par les autorités. Du à aucunes normes respectés. Non je ne reviendrai pas dans se camping. Dommage car le site et merveilleux.

Local attractions

There’s more to L’Escala than just the beach. Càmping Lacus is within walking distance of the scenic Old Town and the museum of Alfolí de la Sal – while you’re wandering the streets, be sure to take the time to try the local delicacy: anchovies. There are oodles of factories to visit, and the Museu de l’Anxova i de la Sal is worth a stop. The site is a 10-minute drive from the remains of the millennia-old trading town, Empúries, where you can explore the ruins that date to the second-century BC and visit the Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya. For a taste of human folly, pull on your serious shoes and hike to the spectacular but unfinished Montgrí Castle at the top of Torroella de Montgrí mountain then make yourself feel better about the successes of human civilisation with a visit to the Fundació Mascort gallery, both less than 20 minutes from Càmping Lacus. If you want a broader urban experience than you’ve had in L’Escala, the museums, galleries, restaurants and shops of the city of Girona are less than an hour from the site. The Museu del Cinema-Col·lecció Tomàs Mallol, the Passeig de la Muralla and, 20 minutes outside the city, the Fundació Mona primate sanctuary are must-sees.
