Large pitches to enjoy nature

  • Peaceful site in a pine forest, five minutes' drive from Bronchales
  • Half an hour's drive from Albarracín and 50 minutes from Teruel
  • Highest site in Spain, in the Sierra de Albarracín mountains
Some might say that Camping Las Corralizas is the pinnacle of camping. And they’d be right, quite literally, for at 1,727 metres above sea level it’s claimed that this place in the Sierra de Albarracín is the highest site in all of Spain. And it’s safe to say that life on site is pretty top notch too – if you like spacious, shaded pitches surrounded by age-old pine trees, and fancy being a half-hour stroll (or five-minute drive) from shops, cafés, bars and restaurants in the little Aragón town of Bronchales. The folk that designed this site did so with the preservation of the forest at the forefront of their minds, but they managed to squeeze in plenty of facilities, including a play area, a pétanque court and a bar-restaurant that opens out onto a terrace (with added aromas of pine wafting around). Guests who’d prefer a bit of self catering can use the barbecues and sort breakfast with a daily bread delivery. Several more handy bits and bobs are squirrelled away among the trees too – there are several heated bathroom blocks scattered around the place, a laundry area and a reception area that’s staffed by friendly locals with all the latest tourist info. There's also a free high-quality wifi service that stretches across the whole site.

Local attractions

Having got up to this lofty point, it’s recommended that you stick around for a little while, perhaps even heading up a little higher with walks or climbs in the peaks of the Sierra de Albarracín or seeking out trails to take you to rivers, waterfalls, viewpoints and castles up on rocky cliffs. But what goes up must, of course, come down – and it's around half an hour’s drive down to the teeny town of Albarracín, a colourful place of pink houses, tiled roofs and a fancy gilded cathedral. There’s an old Moorish castle in town too, and it’s worth making the hike up to the Torre del Andador for some stunning views across the town and its surrounds. There’s more splendid Moorish style over in Teruel (50 minutes’ drive), in the shape of the UNESCO-listed El Salvador tower, the cathedral and the fancy La Escalinata steps (actually a 20th-century pastiche, but an excellent one…). If the niños aren’t too enthralled by all the gorgeous architecture, send them way, way back in time at the Dinópolis prehistory park just outside town.
