- Small, peaceful Minho-Lima site with sunny and shaded pitches
- Ponte de Lima 20 minutes' drive; half an hour to Braga
- On the banks of the Neiva river for swimming and paddling
Make some time to slow down in the Minho-Lima area with a chilled-out stay at Vilas, a small and peaceful rural site about 20 minutes’ drive from Ponte de Lima (the oldest town in Portugal, and a gorgeous place to have a wander around, with lots of well-preserved historic buildings).
This is a great little location for exploring the area – there are castles, walking trails and outdoor activities dotted all around, and you can reach the lovely city of Braga with a half-hour drive. The coast isn’t far off, either – it’s about 40 minutes to the beaches of Esposende and Viana do Castelo.
Not that you have to go that far for a swim – in fact, this site is right next to the Neiva river, where you can take a dip in the clear natural waters. The trees along the riverbank and around the site are popular with local wildlife too, so keep your eyes peeled to see what birds and other creatures you can spot.
Life on site is very laidback – there's plenty of space to relax in the sun or in the shade of the trees, and you're welcome to bring kids, dogs and friends along. It's a fairly simple setup here, so while you’ll have access to wifi, a launderette and a small food shop, it’s worth noting there are no guest toilets or showers.
