Fancy some forest pitching up near a Portuguese beach? Park your gear at Parque Orbitur Gala, near Figueira da Foz. The splendid lengthy sands – and popular surfing/bodyboarding spot – of Cova Gala are within walking distance of the park at 400 metres away, and the site is in the centre of Lavos forest and close to Serra Gorda mountain for outdoor options on days when you're not at the beach. And it's all a few kilometres north of Figueira da Foz and another splendid beach in its 2km stretch. Parque Orbitur Gala is properly equipped with plenty of facilities and amenities, such as an outdoor pool, tennis courts, a sports court, table tennis, playground and even a car wash; food is sorted at the supermarket and the restaurant and bar with terrace. Parque Orbitur Gala also has coin-operated washing machines, a service point and three shower and loo blocks.

Great spot near a huge, often empty beach. Showers & pools are super clean, staff are a ripper. Bit of a mozzie buzz after dark though, and not much shade or variety on the menu. Pits can be a bit cosy.

Liked Very little. The staff were clearly working hard and were friendly.

Disliked The site. I was expecting a tree lined campsite, but got desert instead- it looked as though the trees had all been removed and was very close to the motorway. The pitches are tiny and the electrical hook up points are spaced out a long way from the pitches. You will need extra long hook up cables to access these. The food in the ‘restaurant’ was terrible and I have never eaten somewhere where the bins are kept in the actual eating area.

Liked El sitio, las parcelas bien distribuidas y buen tamaño.

Disliked A los baños les falta una buena limpieza, masificación pero porque es el único camping de la zona. Le falta sombra. Para lo que es, me parece caro. Al llegar a hacer el check-in mucha cola y tuvimos que esperar un buen rato.

Liked Very nice place close to the beach. Great town just a short ferry ride away.

Disliked Could only check in after 3-00.
The loo paper, if there was any, was outside of the cubicles.
We did get bitten quite a bit.

Liked La limpieza de todas las instalaciones y la cocina del restaurante

Disliked La poca información al entrar al camping, y en general en todas las zonas, pedimos jugar al billar y no nos dijeron que costaba 2 euros la partida, nos lo dijeron al final, el precio no era el problema, si no la información que no son claros. La poca animación que tienen y que al ser de fuera del país y no entender el idioma, no tienen mucha consideración y nos sentimos un poco rechazados.

Liked Assez calme. Douches et toilettes correctes. Animations à revoir. Emplacement correct.

Disliked Loin de tout, pas de commerces à proximité. Plage en réhabilitation donc pas très propre pour la baignade. Bruit des travaux là nuit.

Liked El personal es muy amable, las instalaciones están muy bien cuidadas y limpias, hay un acceso privado a la playa (que no está muy concurrida) y tiene una piscina grande con opciones de juego fuera de ellas para niños. Además cuenta con un pequeño supermercado con cosas básicas y una cafetería/restaurante. Tiene todo lo que necesitas 🥰

Disliked El suelo para amarrar las tiendas de campaña, que es terroso como de arena. Con el viento que hacía, por muchas piquetas que le pusiéramos, teníamos que estar en constante vigilancia porque las levantaba.

Liked Las duchas son amplias, con buena presión y agua caliente. Baños limpios. Todos muy amables. Playa bonita y salvaje muy cerca, acceso directo.

Disliked Hay arena para clavar las piquetas, no aguantan, y no hay sombra debido al huracán de hace unos años.

Local attractions

After a day at Cova Gala's sands/sea, find Figueira da Foz for a day on its beach followed by dinner at one of the many restaurants or pavement cafés among its old streets (the casino in town is pretty popular too). The Sierra da Boa Viagem mountain range is three kilometres north of the town for nature spotters and hikers. The ancient city of Coimbra is about 55km from Parque Orbitur Gala, dating back to Roman times and awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2013 for its rather magnificent old buildings. Spend at least a couple of days here if that's what you're into: highly recommended sights to see are the university baroque library, its rising Upper Town and its twelfth century Sé Velha cathedral. Coimbra's Museu Nacional de Machado de Castro/National Museum Machado de Castro is built on the old Roman forum; more Roman history is at Conímbriga, one of the biggest Roman excavations ever unearthed in Portugal and still the best preserved.
