About five minutes. That's the time it should take the standard chap and chapess to reach the beach within an easy amble of Camping 't Strandheem near Opende in Groningen – yes, even if there are tiddlers in tow.
And zilch is what it'll cost all the family to access the facilities and services of this sandy recreation area, as free entry to the local beach within a few hundred metres is included in the accommodation prices of all Camping 't Strandheem guests.
Or – especially, perhaps – if you have tiddlers in tow – you can laze around site instead. You're well sorted for this if you have teens in tow too, as Camping 't Strandheem has been carefully set up to suit offspring of all ages: there are two kids' clubs in summer, one for smaller kids and one for teenagers, and the site also has its own youth centre and disco especially for teens (who may probably take extra glee in informing their younger siblings that these are for bigger folk only).
Kids of all sizes are also sorted in all weathers at the roomy outdoor play area and the indoor pool and indoor playground; for all ages (should the grownups now be feeling somewhat left out), the grounds also include a sports field for games and kickabouts, a fishing pond for peaceful times, and a snack bar, shop and cafeteria for sustenance in between.
As you'd expect, amenities are family friendly too, including a baby changing room and a family shower.

Local attractions
Camping 't Strandheem is just over three kilometres from Opende, in the province of Groningen. As with most of this handsome province and the neighbouring Friesland and Drenthe regions, sightseers can get out on foot, by bike or by boat to explore, on the many North Netherlands land-based trails as well as the area's waterways.
Whatever activities you opt for, plan too for a day at Leekstermeer, the biggest lake in the Drenthe region and about 20 to 25 minutes' drive from the site. There's sailing, canoeing, boating and windsurfing here to dip into on the lake's 335-hectare surface; further afield, you can reach the sailing trips of the Wadden Sea in about 50 minutes' drive.
For town and city days, the Wijde Ee waterway settlement of Drachten is 15 minutes' drive away; province capital Groningen is within half an hour, and Friesland capital Leeuwarden within 35 minutes.
