Sitting on the outskirts of Zoutkamp and close to the mouth of the Lauwersmeer in Groningen, Camping de Rousant is a pleasantly leafy spot with lots of facilities for all the family (and any family dogs) to enjoy. For starters, there’s a play area for toddlers, watersports and fishing on the Reitdiep – a tributary of the Lauwersmeer – a private marina where you can dock your canoe or kayak, and a small river beach for snoozing in the sun. You can also hire bikes on site to follow gentle waterside routes along the river – great for youngsters gaining confidence – and a games room for downtime with all the kids. And when it comes to foodie matters, while there’s not a restaurant on site, there are several eateries within 10 minutes’ walk or so, and you are allowed barbecues, giving you a chance to have a go at alfresco cooking. Some rather unusual toilets are found in the two massive buoys that stand on site, and you have access to laundry facilities for a fee; please remember to bring your own detergents. Should you wish for a few quiet moments of contemplation, the Winter Garden is a peaceful space with greenhouses that stay wonderfully cool in summer under the vines. In autumn, you can taste their harvest after the grapes have been picked and processed into sparkling fresh wine.

Great for quiet stays with roomy spots by the water, and a cool greenhouse common area. Friendly staff, good for bikes and fishing. Some mention dated loos and iffy showers, plus reception hours could be clearer. Zoutkamp village is a nice touch.

Friendly and inviting
The site as a whole was fabulous the canals either side both easy access with paddle boards
Easy walk to the village what is lovely little bakery and a mini supermarket with plenty on offer
The green house with the fire pits and grapevines was lovely
Toilets always clean and always had pressure and hot water

Disliked The water points were a little awkward when having a motor home be sure you have a canister to fill your van as they don’t have actual hose attachment tap
The site could be a little more organised in the pitches as we did have a few on an occasion park

I was only there for one night, so can't say much more.

Liked Nice place, decent tent pitches, decent fascilities.

Disliked Arrived on a Sunday evening. Reception was closed, so no-one to tell me where to pitch, and no code for wifi, which was disappointing. A nice lady who said she is pretty much a permanent resident told me where the tent pitches were and where I might be able to park. If not for her I would have been at a complete loss, as none of the signs or info boards have any english translations.

Liked The site, itself is fantastic and in a great location.
Clean, ample facilities.

Disliked Prior to arrival we were advised of our pitch C02, we were unable to identify this pitch on the online map or on map at site reception. The areas A, B, C were not highlighted.
We arrived at 1500 on a Sunday afternoon and the reception was closed. (Phone call not answered)
After 20 minutes we found pitch 02, so pitched up there.
When reception was open, the following morning, we were advised that we were in the wrong section of the site and to stay on that pitch, in my opinion, an inferior pitch we had to pay an extra 6 euros per night, or relocate, including drive away awning to other site.
If you are on this fantastic site don't accept pitch 2, it is directly under a wind turbine, causing 24 hours of varying noise and flickering shadow in late afternoon and evening.

Liked Although we were on the waterside pitches which is quite away across the river from the main site, the facilities were exceptionally clean and well maintained.
We received a warm welcome from the reception staff, and the site was very quiet and peaceful. The site is close the the nice town/village of Zoutkamp which has dog friendly restaurants, a small supermarket and other shops.
Large pitches

Disliked It appeared that sea shells made up the hard standing which we regularly carried into our Motorhome. Our dog wasn’t too keen on the shells either.

Liked Das Gelände und die Sanitäranlagen sind wirklich toll Sanitäranlagen sind sauber hat alles reibungslos funktioniert. Nachtruhe wurde eingehalten.

Local attractions

Take walking boots for days exploring on foot in the wetlands of Lauwersmeer National Park (10 minutes’ drive), which you can explore by boat or bike – you might spot wild Konik ponies on your jaunts. If the kids have taken to cycling, take the 4.5-hour Pronkjewailen bike ride along well-maintained paths past historic Groningen villages. For more wildlife spotting, head for the Vogelkijkhut De Baak hide (10 minutes) to catch sight of barnacle geese and raptors. The Uitkijktoren Reiddomp observation tower (also 10 minutes) has lovely views across the marshes and waterways of the national park, and it’s just the place to catch stunning sunsets on cloudless days. Another action-filled family day out can be had in the Schiermonnikoog National Park. Take the ferry from Lauwersoog (15 minutes) for swimming in the sea, strolling the beach or cycling around the dunes and salt marshes. The highlight for the kids may well be the regular tractor rides along the beach – and be sure to keep an eye out for seals on the journey.
