It’s only a couple of kilometres to the shores of the Markermeer from Cleygaerd, but you’ll be nicely sheltered from any coastal breezes here in a peaceful 2.5-acre wooded site bordered by a forest. There’s plenty of space at this East Netherlands site, but guest numbers are kept low so the place is always nicely chilled out, allowing guests to soak up the true atmosphere of this green oasis. At the heart of the site is a nature pond with a terrace where you can relax and watch the wildlife. For more of that vibe, just wander out to the Belevenissenbos, the forest that sits between the campsite and the coast. It’s all about the nature here, so facilities have been kept on the simple side, but there are lots of little extras around this place, including a heated bathroom block (with hot showers) and a cosy garden room where you can make tea and coffee, charge your phone, play board games and relax by the woodburning stove. You'll also be able to hire bikes on site if you've not brought your own. All of this may well sound like a thoroughly rural location, but in fact it's handily just on the edge of Lelystad, with the centre of town and the shops and eateries of Batavia Stad a few kilometres away. For those that fancy a picnic on site there are several tables tucked away among the trees that make lovely places for an outdoor meal or drink.

Quiet, secluded spot with lovely private grounds. Hosts are super friendly & helpful. Showers & common areas are spotless. Beautiful nature. A few mozzies and a bit of a trek from parking to pitch (trolleys available) were noted.

Local attractions

Lelystad isn't a huge city but it has plenty to entertain visitors – you may like to take a wander around the Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve (15 minutes' drive and reclaimed from a former industrial site), visit Batavialand to see a reconstructed 17th-century ship or visit the Luchtvaartmuseum Aviodrome to see more than 100 aircraft. Venturing beyond the city limits, you may like to bike along the shores of the Markermeer, cross over the bridge to visit the Zuiderzeemuseum (half an hour’s drive) on the opposite bank, or treat the kids to a day at Walibi Holland (25 minutes). Bigger days out might take you to the likes of the Hanseatic city of Zwolle (45 minutes), the famed canals and museums of Amsterdam (50 minutes) or lively Utrecht (an hour). You can reach all of these on public transport from Lelystad if you don't fancy driving.
