Smart static caravans, stacks for the kids to do, and with the seaside just down the road too… it really is a very family-friendly setup at Tuscany’s SunLodge at Camping Park Albatros, 10 minutes’ drive south of San Vincenzo.
It’ll only take you a few minutes to stroll down to the beach from here – and it’s a rather lovely one, with a swathe of sand and some rocks to clamber on, plus umbrellas, loungers and pedalos to rent. You could opt to stay on site for your swims if you prefer, though: there’s a large outdoor pool and a heated toddlers’ pool too, with sun loungers alongside where parents can sunbathe while keeping an eye on the splashing.
When they’re not in the pool, kids can be playing football, table tennis or miniature golf, signing up for riding lessons or tackling the playground’s Jungle Tour, crossing rope bridges between the tall towers. In the summer months, there are various activities for them to join in with too, plus entertainment and excursions for the grownups – all followed by family-friendly evenings at the disco.
There’s a pizzeria on site to fuel all this activity, or you could hit the shop for all the ingredients you need to create something tasty in your static caravan’s well-equipped kitchen. Each caravan also has a private bathroom, heating, comfy beds and a covered deck area with outdoor furniture.

Local attractions
Once you’ve splashed sufficiently at the local beach, set off for San Vincenzo (10 minutes’ drive) to check out its 10-kilometre sandy stretch, try your hand at various watersports and wander around the harbour, taking in the medieval Torre San Vincenzo as you go.
For a bit more of that historical vibe, explore the Etruscan and Roman remains at Baratti and Populonia Archaeological Park (10 minutes) or take a little stroll around the medieval streets of Suvereto (20 minutes). And there’s more below the surface… at Parco Archeominerario di San Silvestro (20 minutes) you can take an underground train to explore the ruins of a 14th-century mine.
Back up at ground level, you may like to plan day trips to Pisa (an hour) or Siena (an hour and a half), or treat the kids to an outing to Cavallino Matto theme park (20 minutes) or Bimbolandia amusement park (half an hour). Then again, you may just prefer to wallow in the hot springs at Venturina Terme (10 minutes)…
