  • Well-shaded Albinia site with direct access to a sandy beach
  • A 10-minute drive to the Monte Argentario peninsula; 30 to Grosseto
  • Outdoor waterpark, poolside bar, two restaurants and summer activities
Holidays on the Tuscany coastline often come with a touch of class, and in this sense, stays at Argentario Camping Village are certainly no exception. With direct access to Giannella beach and all of the advantages of being next to the sea, including the splendid view of the islands and the presence of boat slipways, this site has lots to offer for those seeking an excellent outdoor getaway. As if that isn't enough, three large outdoor swimming pools (complete with a slide and waterfall), a children's play area and a hydromassage tub make up the fabulous water park at Argentario Camping Village. After splashing in the water, perhaps have something to drink at the poolside bar, where events and aperitifs are organised during high season. In the summer, the site arranges various evening activities to entertain guests, including games, aerobics and outdoor events. Set in a centuries-old pine forest mere metres from the waters of the Med, there's plenty of scope for peace and quiet on site, too. In need of more soothing solitude? The WWF nature reserve directly opposite the site should do the trick (keep an eye out for flamingos flapping overhead).  After all that swimming, sliding, aerobics-ing, snoozing and birdwatching, there's a fair chance you'll have dinner on your mind. On site, guests have access to a handy food shop and two restaurants (with takeaway options available). Head into Albinia (10 minutes' drive) if you fancy sampling another local eatery or need to stock up at the supermarket.

Local attractions

Monte Argentario peninsula (10 minutes' drive) is a splendid spot with tumbledown towns and gorgeous vistas over mountain and sea. Porto Ercole (15 minutes), said to be one of the prettiest villages around these parts, is on the eastern side; in the north, Porto Santo Stefano (15 minutes) has a mix of maritime history and quiet coves. There are also two castles here: Fortezza Spagnola in Porto Santo Stefano and Forte Stella, over in a quiet corner on the south of the peninsula (20 minutes).  On a separate spit of land, Orbetello (15 minutes) is surrounded on both sides by a lagoon, making it a hub for wildlife (check out the bird hides for a closer look). The town is also home to top architectural spots like the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Palazzo del Podestà. Visitors looking to leave their car on site can jump on the shuttle bus that runs throughout the summer months to get here (it serves equally visit-worthy Talamone, too).  Heading inland, Grosseto (30 minutes) is home to more architectural gems; for kid-pleasing times, there's an adventure park close by (35 minutes).
